Using Jesus in politics - Yay or Nay?

President Obama urged religious leaders to back his plan to raise taxes
on wealthy Americans — by saying that it is what Jesus would do.
“I actually think that is going to make economic sense,” he said of his
call for the wealthy to shoulder a greater tax burden, “but for me as a
Christian, it also coincides with Jesus’ teaching that ‘for unto whom
much is given, much shall be required.’”
He went on to say: “I know far too many neighbors in our country have been hurt and treated
unfairly over the last few years,” the President said. “And I believe
in God’s command to ‘love thy neighbor as thyself.’”
What happened to the separation of church and state? I don't care if it was a Jewish president talking about Moses, or an utterance from the teachings of Scientology or Buddhism -- it would all be inappropriate. And I certainly don't mean any disrespect to Christianity. I just think that religion doesn't belong in politics.
What are your thoughts?
