This is so stupid. They know they need to stop Saturday delivery. They've known it for quite a while. But, even that's short term. Privatize it and get it over with.

That's because they're being forced to charge high prices. If the charge was less, more business comes.

Remember: That postal price is subsidized by the American taxpayer, so there would be room for an increase, if needed, by a private deliverer. The key is the need to deliver mail everywhere, not just in the easiest and most profitable areas. The reality is, if you are in a more rural area, you should pay more, and not be subsidized by those who live in urban areas. Just as most packages are handled.

So you want to pay $7.50 to mail a letter and get lousy service to boot. That what Fedx and UPS charge I had to use them a few times.

The funny thing is... how FedEx and UPS move much of the first class mail, for the USPS, on contract. So, with the economy of scale, they could be competitive.

Don't forget, your tax dollars are subsidizing the USPS, so you are paying more than the price on the stamp.

Don't really need the post office for anything anymore just let it die peacefully.

No way the congress is going to let the post office die.

It's already dead! And congress, is using your taxes. You subsidized every delivery.

You're really a stupid liberal you know that? Look beyond that stinkin' liberal nose of yours and dig a little deeper to find answers. Don't watch msnbc, youtube with Mr. Seder and all other liberal media outlets and stop there like it's the final/only answer. You've been brainwashed lib just like all your other obama sheeple!

H.R. 6407 (109th): Postal Accountability and Enhancement Act:
    Cosponsors:
    Danny Davis (D-IL7)
    John McHugh (R-NY23)
    Henry Waxman (D-CA30)

passed the House by a voice vote and unanimous consent in the Senate. Now not only did the GOP not have a filibuster-proof majority in the Senate, all 44 Democrats and the lone independent in the Senate consented to the bill.
Additionally, two of the three cosponsors for this bill were Democrats and you just don’t get more “liberal” than Henry Waxman (D-CA), 1 of the 3!!!!!

I feel certain the bill collectors and junk mail folks will find a way to get their stuff to us. We hardly even mail out anything anymore.

The bill was a bad bill no mater who voted for it. At least the left wants to repeal it.

Not in the least - defaulting on benefits for employees not born is fine -- absurd from the beginning

Government ALWAYS has money. If they say it's broke, it's because someone has been putting it in their bank account instead.

Either way, I rarely get any mail.

Bush gets 85% of all the post office profits. Bush made a secret law in 2006 to require 85% of post office profit to be handed over to him and the Bush family tax free. George Bush and his family have made $1.2 billion from the secret law and now the post office is going broke and its employees are losing their jobs.
