I can't say with certainty, but I think it's possible that Al Qaeda or some other group spread rumors that the film was being shown in theaters and fomented anger among the more gullible right-wing extremists to make the attack look spontaneous. But most Libyans, and the Libyan government, are pro-American.

I had a feeling that the number 11 would be significant to them again. I said something to my husband about how the 10th anniversary was OUR significant anniversary (as we tend to do that with all things...the 10th, 20th, etc.) but that the 11th would be theirs.

How many protesters do you know of that have heavy artillery? The Benghazi attack was al-Qaeda from start to finish.
