My perceived problem with unions
-- It’s not so much the individual, but with their unions. The past few years it has been obvious to anyone with active brain cells that the local economies across the country are struggling. But unions don't seem to be able or willing to pull their heads out of the sand and take a look around. If they did they would see:
• Single guy across the street had his car repossessed
• The neighbor who lost his job
• Couple up the street had their home foreclosed on
• Long lines at the unemployment office
• College kids unable to find a decent job
But what do the unions do in times like these...Demand more....when they should be saying something a bit more reasonable like
...."Hey, we're good for right now, we'll talk again in a year or two."
Over the years unions have morphed into just another power hungry group of greedy organizations
Unions; have they outlived their usefulness or not?

It seems to me that a lot of Americans do not support having unions nor being in one VS previous decades.
Unions were formed out of the need to give rights to the average worker, but much has changed in the past 100+ years since the unions came to be since the 19th century. Child labor laws went into place, work hours were established, etc.
They have gone through ups and owns, with the last big resurgence being after WWII, and another for farmer workers with the Cesar Chavez movement. They also have gone from being seen a blue collar labor force ideal to white collar professions turning to union representation as well as those in sports fields and the arts.
Unions have gone through the downs too with decreasing membership and accusations of corruption among it's leaders. Concerns about unions and politics, as well interference with professionalism have been noted.
All this has led to a dramatic change with people on opposite ends of the spectrum, one side stating that unions are no longer relevant, and the other stating that they more relevant than ever as evidenced the new formation of unions in professions that have not had them before such as nurses.
With all this that has transpired and this very brief summary, do you think unions have outlived their usefulness or not? What do you think? Please be civil. Thanks.
