All unemployment numbers matter, not just the adjusted rate
All that matters is that the unemployment rate dropped to 8.2%

87,897,000 are not working.

You read that correctly. Nearly 1/3 of our population has give up looking for work and are unreported and mostly ignored by CNN, CBS, ABC, NBC, MSNBC, and even Fox News.

I have been directly affected by this. I will be starting a new internship in may, and my group will be moved to a new office. Instead of being happy and celebrating, everyone is somber because the space we will be getting was formerly occupied by 100 people recently laid off to cut costs.

I will get my own desk and computer equipped with a view from the hill of the town because of a growing number of victims of Obama's Economy.

The unemployment rate drops to 8.2% for one simple reason: the number of people not in the labor force is back to all time highs:

drops 8 2 simple reason number people labor force highs

It's time the oboma state media started telling the truth the real unemployment rate is close to 17%. they are only counting the ones collecting. How about the ones who are no longer collecting and the under employed only working part time? When will they start telling the TRUTH about how this guy is destroying our country?

Yes, things are bad in Amercia. However, they are worse here in the United States. The literacy problem is really nasty. There are billions of unemployed proofreaders roaming the streets having babies out of wedlock. This is an outrage and must stop at once!

I'm 54 married and 4 children almost all adults; I've been working full time since I was 15. Last year at 53 years of age I worked two full time jobs & 300 hours of over time. This I did to help my family. Why CAN'T a young man do this. What happened to our society that young men don't have to pay for their actions ie. family & children jobs 300 family young society young pay actions family children

Unfortunately, we've been calculating this way for years!! It's wrong. Flat out wrong!! But even calculating it the right way, I don't think any other President had this amount of unemployed, underemployed and those that have just flat given up when you look at actual numbers.

And, you should be ashamed for trying to mislead those who can't think for themselves, the "grass roots" of the Rep Party. Of course 1/3 of Americans aren't working. In fact, the number is higher than that. If you count the retired, the aged, children, the disabled and handicapped, add the students and those elected to office, and those unemployed and seeking jobs, you will come up with more than 1/3 of Americans who aren't working. Duh.....

Under the "65 and older" statistic, there are around 39k in the retiremement AGE.

33k are included in the "not in labor force" statistic.
This leaves 54k who could be anyone between 16 and 64.

Even if it were 54k "not in labor force" instead of 87k, it's STILL disturbing news, and certainly nothing worth touting as a recovery.

At Bush's worst (6% unemployment), it was around 70k counted as "not in labor force".

On the day GWB left office the U.S. was shedding 750,000 jobs a month, as the economy had collapsed in the fourth quarter of 2008 and all factors were negative.

Why would anyone try to cover up the results of 30 years of a failed economic policy that looted America's middle class of $17Trillion and made a new class of Aristocrats that control the economy, Wall Street, and Reagan Banks, and have
the international banking system on the verge of total collapse? Why do you, or anyone, feel it necessary to bring up these matters and allege that somehow Barack Obama brought about the economic problems we face as a result? Don't we have enough to think about in seeking recovery to waste effort covering up the origins of these disasters?

Have you ever watched a cat trying to cover up a pile of droppings on the sidewalk? Some things just can't be hidden, no matter how much effort is given to the attempt.

They have to cover it up, otherwise it would be common knowledge that trickle down economic theory is what has ruined this country and it's once thriving middle class.

How is it 30 years of failed economic policies, when the republican led Clinton years left us with a balanced budget and 2% unemployment?

That puts a hole in your theory.

There wasn't 30 years failure it was more like 11 going on 12. In no way am I saying I supported Bush. In fact, I was as against him as I am Obama. That doesn't change the fact that in the last 3 years Obama has added more regulation and more debt than any president has while in office.

There's no need to cover up anything. Including how 8.2% is a complete and total lie.

Perhaps, if you would use Google and Wikipedia, you could research the misunderstandings that are apparent in your comments. Look into the public debt, and the years in which Wall Street and the Reagan Banks have been in control of our economy, notwithstanding which political party occupied the White House.

You are accurate. Dont listen to these people, it's obvious they werent paying attention. The Clinton yrs were some of the best. We only started losing jobs when GWB came into office. Obama took his mess & ran with it. The job numbers are going to be looking great in a few weeks, that's because they've cut the EB for the unemployed at months end. I'm sure Obama will be proud of himself for getting those numbers down in time for the election.
