Unabomber Ted Kaczynski murdered three people and injured 23 more with his mail bombs. The Unabomber sent his first mailbomb in 1978 and escaped justice for nearly 20 years before his family tipped off the FBI in 1996.

The court has ordered the Unabomber to pay $15 million in restitution to his victims, starting with the auction of materials seized from his Montana cabin.

An online auction of "Unabomber" Ted Kaczynski's personal items was set to begin Wednesday, with proceeds to compensate some of his victims.

The online auction will run through June 2, the U.S. Marshals Service said last week. Among about 60 items up for sale are personal documents such as driver's licenses, birth certificates and checks; academic transcripts; typewriters; and "more than 20,000 pages of written documents, including the original handwritten and typewritten versions" of Kaczynski's manifesto, authorities said.

The auction will be conducted by the General Services Administration, the Marshals Service said. A catalog of the items will be available on the GSA's auction website when the sale begins.

if the funds go to the victims, I am all for it. I personally don't have the cash to burn on junk like this but I'm sure someone will. It's about time the actions of criminals start being punished fairly and some kind of monetary compensation is given the the victims. We need to do more, more to protect the innocent and punish the criminals more harsh

Even though it may help the victims, I think it sets a precedent, and memorializes the vile deeds of evil. If these murderers, starting with Lincoln's John Wiles Booth, were not identified by "name", just "X" and were obscure, perhaps some of them would seek other ways of fame and immortality, which may be one reason they commit crime.

this country or world as humans need to get back to what is proper; good vs right; we need to learn what poor taste (you can be poor, not be in poor taste) is

so many people put murderers on certain pedestals for reasons unknown to many of us;
sure, it all makes NEWS; or is it entertaining?
I am so unimpressed by anyone in jail; they have more rights that the folks on the outside, we are the folks paying these large outrageous funding for prisons...GET REAL

I read about this guys behavior before he became a hermit and it was a lot like a boss I had. I thought the boss was a real psycho. He had problems was dozens of people including customers and his friends. They would react negatively to his actions but he'd always blame everybody else not acknowledging his provocative behavior.

I would bid on something like the typewriter as the money does go to the victims. Let it be noted that not one penny goes to the auction site itself they want all monies to go to the victims who continue to suffer everyday. I would use that typewriter to write a story about what an a*shole he really is....people thought it was ok to sell OJ's stuff to go to the victims what is the difference??

Why would anybody want to do that. I would think that anybody that did, is condoning his actions. However, if all the funds go to the victims then it is acceptable.

Whatever he has is not going to yield 15 million dollars, it won't even cover the administrative cost of doing the auction. What a waste? I want to bid on a Louis Vuitton bag because I have used the same back pack for the past 15 years and my mother says that its time that I start carrying a purse.

I have no fascination with The Unibomber or any other murderers. I don't understand people who do. And even if I was curious about what kind of mind a murderer has it wouldn't lead me to collecting the personal items of murderers.
