No one saw this coming. The UN has chosen Iran, of all countries, to help negotiate an arms treaty with the rest of the world. Is it a crazy idea -- or does it kind of make sense?

FOXNEWS.COM reports:
Barely a week after accusing Iran of supplying arms for Syria's bloody crackdown on democracy-minded rebels, the UN has given Tehran a key seat at negotiations for a global arms treaty.

Makes perfect sense for the U.N.

Remember they are an organization that has made Libya the head of the human rights committee, has presided over every major genocide in the last 50 years and despite worldwide blooshed they reserve their worst outrage for Israel.

The U.N. is a symbol of everything that is depraved with left-wing geopolitics.

Makes at least as much sense as any other government doing it, including our benighted "democracy." By the way, why would you accept the word of a network that calls the Syrian rebels "democracy-minded?" Exactly when did they even agree on that amongst themselves, and why would Saudi Arabia and other gulf monarchies be arming anything "democracy-minded?" Just because Assad is a dictator, that doesn't mean the rebels have "democracy" on their minds.

We the People Must change our congress, Senate, and President in order for the world to realize the mistake of messing with the USA. The world only knows thepeople in the government of this country, but the people, the citizens, are a far different story than they know. They used to know, but they have forgotten. The basic American is simular to their God, "They change not."

hmmm, how about the hundreds of thousands of american injured, amputees, dead, messed up soldiers and their families, if only usa had listened to the un arms inspectors in iraq. there were no wmds in iraq

I think the percentage was much higher than 10%, its just most of the people who were opposed to it didn't want to speak out in fear of the ravenous pack falling on them accusing them of being 'un-American'
  • Z David H... 2012/07/12 08:49:07

No, even anon. polls put it at 10-15%.

But even anon. polls are typically done with the intent of producing a desired result, and polls being done at the time would be looking for pro war results. I'd be curious to see how those polls were worded if you have links to any of them.

i was against the war in iraq, and lot of people gave me hard time back then. i tried to reason that of the 19 hijackers, most, 14-15 were saudis, but others did not care.

i also believe, that there is propaganda here against the un, and lot of the good stuff, their peacekeeping, unicef, unesco, etc, has been downplayed, i'm not sure why. un

That "good stuff" has terrible out comes. Unesco bits frequently goes to warlords around the world and funds their actions, Unicef gives it's donations in many cases to governments that don't use it for what it is supposed to be for. The UN does a lot of bad things, and messes up almost every "good" thing they try to do. It isn't propaganda. Complementing them would be propaganda.
  • marianne Z 2012/07/21 17:11:44
    marianne
good points there, and there are always rogue actions within good intentions, but would the world be better of without the un?
  • Z marianne 2012/07/21 19:18:27
    Z
Honestly, yeah. It means aggressive actions and intentions would be far more open. It would also force other nations to take responsibility for their defense, it would create much more realistic economic deals. Honestly, yeah, I do think that the world would be better without the UN. The U.N. has done a lot of bad, and I don't believe that a group like the UN can or should represent the people of this planet effectively.
  • marianne Z 2012/07/21 23:58:35
    marianne
you might want to rethink your position, without the un how will the little countries get representation, its like throwing out the baby out with the bath water.
