The UN Arms Trade Treaty crashed and burned today. The US delegation backed out at the last minute. They said they needed more time to study the draft. The Russian, Indonesian, and Indian delegations said the same.
Here's the real skinny: Obama knew he'd never get that treaty ratified. Even if Harry Reid held it up until after the election, the Senate would never vote the right way. And if the Senate had this hot potato on its plate, next year's Senate would be an entirely different Senate.
And Obama didn't want to risk that.

Search "USS Liberty" or the "Lavon Affair" for historical facts that even Israel finally admits they did. Killing Americans and documentation of admissions.
