Two Haredi "Ultra-Orthodox" Jews save a Muslim Somali from a fire

Chaya2010 2011/07/01 14:48:51

Two strictly Orthodox men and a medic from Hatzola, the Charedi ambulance service, have saved a young London Somali boy from a fire.

Josh Berkovitz ran into a blazing building in Tottenham, north London, after he heard a mother screaming that her son was trapped in the building yesterday afternoon.

He was alerted by Nochem Perlberger, a former paramedic in Israel, who smelt burning when he returned to his office just yards from the house.

"I smelt burning plastic and then suddenly heard terrible screaming outside," he said. "A woman was shouting hysterically: 'My child is inside'."

Mr Berkovitz and another passer-by ran into the house while Mr Perlberger called the police, fire brigade and Hatzola.

The two-year-old was taken to a nearby restaurant and put under a running tap.

David Herzka, who has volunteered for Hatzola for 24 years, was first on the scene, arriving within two minutes.

"I was in my office nearby when I received the call," he said. "I dropped everything, grabbed my medical bag and got in the car.

"When I arrived, I ran into the restaurant and saw the boy had around 70 per cent burns. It was terrible. I immediately cut off his remaining clothes, applied burn gel and gave him oxygen."

The London ambulance arrived about seven minutes later and continued to treat the boy before taking him to hospital.

Around 20 firefighters battled the fire for more than an hour before it was under control.

Wow, so hearty and so un-selfish. Even though Hatzolah is a private Haredi ultra-orthodox Jewish medical service. The Jewish idea to 'save the world.' The first aiding the homeless, the first in doctors without borders, Israel is also on the front of humanitarian aid to nations struck in emergencies. http://www.cleveland.com/sun/...

It is bred in all of us, to save another if we can. Doesn't matter who we are. or where we came from...It's just Human instinct.

The poor boy. Now he'll be scratched off the suicide-bomber list he was so eager to die for.

Oh, i think basic human nature to help someone in distress would just take over in a situation like that. The few Muslim people i know are very nice people, they are spotlessly clean, work hard, don`t scrounge of the state + are good living polite people, i could`nt fault them in any way + they do integrate as best they can, it`s the local community that are at times unpleasant to the couple of Muslim families i know,
this road iv`e lived in for the past 35yrs, the only time a neighbour knocks at my door is when they want something or want my son to do something for them, these Muslim people knew i`d been in hospital + called to see how i was + brought me lot`s of lovely fruit, they did`nt need to do that, but that is how they are. There`s good + bad in all societies + Cultures.

Great to know that and you're very lucky to have some decent ones around because they few and far in between. In our experience it has been anything but pleasant to live near them, hence my dislike. They have taken over whole neighbourhoods and turned them into some dirty slums, only to complain about their own handy work and demanding clean-up sessions from the council on top of the usual street sweeping etc.

We live in a small town, the people i know have a take away, absolutely fab food, + 1 family live in the next road, they are quiet decent people, a few miles away there`s more Muslims, not many but they are`nt wanted, that area is not the nicest of places anyway, rough + a lot of drugs going on down there besides other things !!. I think common sense has to prevail in regard to immigration + all these Radicals, we just cant keep letting people in + the trouble makers should be shipped out, sod their Human rights, we also have rights, the radicals are a Great Threat. Your Council should impose fines on the people who leave the property in a mess, they are starting to do that here, if people don`t keep their gardens etc tidy, the council will come in + clean the place up + charge the tenant for the work + it`s locals not Muslims or any other race that cause the mess here in council property, i`m fortunate i don`t live in council property.

You are very right,The council tried to do the charging thing ,but the muslims called it discrimination against their culture and religion. Those areas have many services not available to indigenous Brits.I myself can't even get fencing for my grandkids health and safety.

Madness Reigns unfortunately. What council housing there is around here is pretty good, they are good sized houses + solidly built, but so many abuse the property, there`s a very long road of council houses at the back of our estate, over the last 2yrs all this property has had millions spent on it, even the road has been resurfaced, there are old people bungalows nearby, they are beautiful, they`ve also had new everything, because our properties are private, we get nothing done, yet the council tax we all pay is ridiculous, our road has been full of pot holes, they have now after years of waiting just stuck a bit of tarmac in the holes !!, in the bad weather we cant get out of the road, the council wont come down with grit or clear the heavy snow, but they do on the council house roads !!, they don`t want claims against them if anyone falls etc, + most of these tenants don`t pay a penny in rent or council tax the mind boggles !!, those who work just seem to supplement all those who don`t.

Yeah, same here! The community I mentioned is mainly private, only the odd one belonging to the council, but no sooner do they mumble the words "discrimination and racism" the work gets carried out,no delay.I am renting now after losing my house after falling ill with several stomach ulcers and was forced to go on long term sick and am now on incapacity benefits.Mortgage company couldn't get their dirty mitts on the property fast enough.Even the judge said that they were being immoral.
