Question US

Tuna at risk due to over-consumption. Will you stop ordering blue fin tuna at sushi restaurants?

Michael July 28, 2008 06:28:34

The blue fin tuna is at risk of being extinct since Asia and now the western world can't stop eating enough sushi! How much to do you care about this fish?

I don't eat enough sushi/tuna to make a difference. I hope that by creating a demand for the product, businesses will realize the need to protect the fish, increase prices if necessary and increase supply all in the name of greed. The people who make a living because of the demand for the fish won't let it join the list of extinct animals... right?

I don't order any specific Tuna when I eat sushi. I don't know what type of Tuna (or if it's even Tuna at all) that they're serving me.

I don't want to be responsible for the end of a species. I will try not to eat anymore (even though tuna melts are delicious).

There is actually endangered species fish piracy going on because some criminal elements have realized they can make buckets of money until the tuna and sturgeons (for caviar) are extinct.

every bit helps, Fef. It's like compound interest. and it works in reverse too. for everyone who feels as you do when you add all thosoe litle, I make no diff statements well - you have no more tunas.,

this is why there are no more dodos and passenger pigeons.

    future discounting

I wouldn't count on it Fef. greed seems to have taken over the world like a feeding frenzy of a swarm of locusts. nothing is sacred it seems.

In the interim I will continue to eat this fish though I am more inclined to order less while at a sushi restaurant. For the longer term, let me learn more and maybe i will stop ordering this fish altogether until the blue fin population is more sufficient.
