The historical, Biblically documented teachings of Jesus of Nazareth clearly show that Jesus is a Liberal. His philosophy, based in compassion, equality, forgiveness, tolerance, peace and - most importantly - love, is 100% Liberal. He rejected greed, violence, the glorification of power, the amassing of wealth without social balance, and the personal judging of others, their lifestyles and beliefs.... which is about 100% away from what most conservatives are preaching these days.

They have conflicting codes of conduct. You can't just bend what the Bible says to fit your preferences and point of view. We all make a choice: "A Life of Principle or a Life of Preference" -- Vitor Belfort.

Red, it sounds as though he's saying only a Conservative can be a Christian. Do you think that is true? You'd know.

I'm a social conservative and a fiscal liberal. The question isn't whether or not I can obey the gospel of Christ. The question is whether or not I would ever get elected for president. :)

Seeing as I am a liberal, and a Christian, I think it's safe to say that it is possible. I do exist.

Are you a true liberal, who espouses MORE freedom and LESS government who supports the right to life? Or are you a "progressive" big government type who advocates taxpayer funding of abortions. If you are the former, then of course you could indeed be a true Christian. If not, you delude only yourself, no one else.

I think we're acknowledging the same thing. This Bible quote indicates that for all the good that Christianity has done in its history it will not create a political - economic Utopia on earth. That awaits the return of Christ and his iron scepter. At its very best liberal Christianity amounts to arrogant, Christ rejecting busy work.

That's true. But although many Republicans are not true Christians, some are. But the same cannot be said of any Democrat who supports agendas contrary to Christian teachings. Admittedly, there are a very few true Liberals who don't support the leftwing agendas that conflict with Christian ideology. But off the top of my head, I cannot think of a single one in Congress. Can you? If so, name him or her.

Although I use to be under the impression that Democrat Heath Schuler was of that variety, I recently was disappointed to learn that he caved in to the pro-abortion majority among Dems.

Episcopalians are very liberal, but so are the Quakers and the Unitarians. The wingnuts on the right are mostly various kinds of Baptists and Evangelists. Even Methodists are liberal in many ways, although they are teetotal.

Who are you talking about? My question doesn't mention any particular person's name. It just asks in so many words if it's impossible for a Liberal to be a Christian.

And the truth of the matter, evidently, is NO... unless you're one of the very few TRUE classic Liberals opposed to the leftwing agendas that conflict with Christian teachings. Are you? Do you oppose abortion, homosexual agendas and other things the Bible frowns upon?

But the one-world-government commie-socialist "big government" progressive control freaks calling themselves "Liberals" nowadays are anything BUT true liberals.

Jesus said it would be better for anyone who harms children to tie a stone around his neck and cast himself into the sea. But those supporting Obama support someone so extremist that he espoused even the murders of newborn babies!
