"A tornado killed one person near Branson, Mo., overnight. Three more deaths were reported Wednesday morning in Harrisburg, Illinois. Harveyville, Kansas, was also struck by a tornado. Warnings were issued Wednesday morning for Kentucky.

I'm always affected by tragedy. I use to live in Kansas and the town I grew up in was hit by a tornado in the past, it took out about half of the town then including the hospital and some schools.

Although far away, it was in my home state, and my brother lives down that way, that's always in the back of my mind, like when Joplin got torn up last year.

No, we've been dealing with high winds here in the mountains of NM for about a week now but other than losing a few shingles on my house, no effect. We always have wind. No tornadoes..
If tornadoes did touch down in NM, like one did a couple-three years back, (an F3 I think), then there is so much prairie and so little populated areas that no harm came of it.

I have family in Harveyville and will be making the trip there to assist in cleanup efforts. I don't know what to really expect other than I know it will be hard seeing friends and loved ones trying to make sense of all this. I'm amazed that more people weren't injured or even killed as the tornado siren did not go off. Reports coming from Topeka news agencies are saying that the radar showed rain over the area and then all of a sudden a tornado formed right over the town and was on the ground for 4 minutes and then gone so I'm speculating that there just was not the time to sound the alarms.

One thing that truly sucks about the midwest and the plains in spring and summer we got hammered in early March a few years back and the one that hit Harrisburg was well south of here. Basements or storm cellars should be mandatory in these areas it's not so much not if but when.

However it was in my area. My boss's son lost his home and vehicles. Their cat was sucked out the window as well. Also, he lives next door to an apartment building, and three tenants were killed. Prayers go out to all the families affected.
