http://news.yahoo.com/top-u-military-officer-calls-pastor-ove... WASHINGTON (Reuters) - General MGeneral Martin Dempsey the chairman of the U S military s Joint Chiefs of Staff artin Dempsey, the chairman of the U.S. military's Joint Chiefs of Staff, spoke with Pastor Terry Jones by phone on Wednesday and asked him to withdraw his support for a film whose portrayal of the Prophet Mohammad has sparked violent protests - including one that ended with the death of America's envoy to Libya. "In the brief call, Gen. Dempsey expressed his concerns over the nature of the film, the tensions it will inflame and the violence it will cause," Dempsey's spokesman, Colonel Dave Lapan, told Reuters. "He asked Mr. Jones to consider withdrawing his support for the film." U.S. military officials are concerned that the film could inflame tensions in Afghanistan, where 74,000 U.S. troops are fighting. The Taliban earlier on Wednesday called on Afghans to prepare for a fight against Americans and urged insurgents to "take revenge" on U.S. soldiers over the film.

I'm not fond of Mr. Jones methods but if he upsets them enough to do some hate crimes here maybe the liberal sheepole will wake up to what they're inviting into the country.

America's government's failure to fight a war in the way it should be fought is what puts the military in harm's way. However, a fully trained special forces soldier would not worry about that, because he can handle anything the enemy can throw at him. My saying to the VC in Nam (I was a Ranger), was; Bring it on, if you feel today is your day to die.

Depends on the state you live in and the category of the crime you were convicted of. Once you do your time, including parole or probation, in my state you can even vote and run for office, but not next door in MD. Federally speaking, the Watergate burglars could have run for president.

Actually, I am not "Undecided" in the answer. Our Military is in harms way no matter the content of any movie or trailer, big screen, internet, or any other media type. The Muslim world is out to subjugate all of the Infidels of the world, Kill them if possible and/or necessary, and if all else fails, breed them out of existence. And our Military is part of the Infidel World. The Muslim world is at war with us, the West and the quicker people of all political belief realize that, the better off we will be.

I don't know the first thing about the film in question, but if we let some medieval "religious" nutcases influence our personal/domestic behavior, that's when everything we stand for (i.e. individual liberty, the constitution, etc) goes out the window.

We certainly should leave Libya, Afghanistan, Yemen, etc.--not because of some homicidal insurgency, but simply because what goes on in those countries is the business solely of the people who live there.

The very nature of the job places them in harm's way, not the actions of anyone outside the chain of command, and it's a choice they willingly made.

The oath they take includes the words "...uphold and defend the Constitution..." and that includes the First Amendment right to free speech. The right to free speech is the bedrock from which all of our other rights spring. No entity, governmental or otherwise should ever have the right to restrict it! That right was wrested from a tyrant at the cost of more than 10,000 American lives and eight years' worth of hardship, deprivation, and, for some, the loss of nearly all they owned. In the 237 years since, hundreds of thousands more have died to maintain it. Millions more have fought to preserve it.

Protecting freedom of speech isn't an option if you enjoy living in a free country. The loon on a soapbox at the corner is entitled to proclaim his or her own stupidity and ignorance at the top of his or her lungs. The cost is simple: you have to be willing to sacrifice as much to defend the speech of someone you loathe and despise as you would for yourself, without hesitation, without qualification. I'm truly appalled at and disgusted with those who think it only deserves protection when it's their speech or when it supports a point they agree with.
