Judge Rebecca Smith is involved in a legal battle with the company that salvaged 6,000 pieces of Titanic artifacts worth 110 million dollars. RMS Titanic Inc., the salvage company responsible for the huge collection of artifacts, is struggling for the ability to sell its collection for a little extra funding during a recent financial issue. Judge Smith is expected to rule that all the artifacts must remain together in a collection and cannot be sold anywhere but to a Museum. Should the Titanic artifacts be protected or put up for auction to the highest bidder?

Why should anyone be aloud to buy artifacts? Those artifacts are the last thing to show that those people were there... Its like their gravestone! Whats the sifference of the bodies that are in gravegards... Their bones are gone yet we dont take their gravestones and toss them!!!!! Leave the Titanic alone please for the sake of the people that died that tragic night!!!!!!

I'm a huge fan of this tragedy, and seeing how not one survivor is still living I would like to own a small part of this history!

They're part of History! You can't sell History. It wasn't Captain Edward John Smith's fault that the Titanic hit the iceberg! He was a great captain! Titanic's artifacts need to be put in a museum, so that the people of today can see what life was like in 1912.

Why can't people understand that many of these artifacts belonged to people who LOST THEIR LIVES IN THE TITANIC'S SINKING. Just because they are not RARE, doesn't mean they should be sold! They're not priceless for rarity, they're priceless because they were present at the sinking of one of the world's largest ocean liners! Not to mention most of those artifacts act as gravestones for the people who died on the ship and in Atlantic water.

I think that most of these titanic artifacts are not THAT rare. You can find a lot of this same exact stuff that was made in 1912 at antique stores for sale. People should just buy that stuff instead and pretend it was from the titanic.

I thought salvage rights gave the ownership of what ever is salvaged to the salvager? If so, let them do what they want. If not, then I really have no opinion.

Does anyone care about the people who lost their lives in this tragedy?!! The resting place of the Titanic is sacred ground where many rest. The artifacts and the ship itself should be left alone now. Enough has been taken already from the depths where she rests. What artifacts were brought to the surface need to be protected. They should not be sold to anyone because, honestly....who has the right to sell any of it?!?! Just because the Titanic was found and artifacts retrieved does not give said people the right to sell the stuff! It's not theirs to sell!!!! I agree with Magerine2. If they are sold it should be to a museum and a museum only!!!!! titanic artifacts retrieved people sell sell magerine2 sold museum museum

Who has the right to sell any of it? Um, perhaps you're not familiar with this, but anybody who finds and salvages a shipwreck has had the right to sell what they find, it's been that way forever. People search for and find ancient shipwrecks all the time, and sell the treasure they spent a small fortune to retrieve from the wreck. In most cases it's only the valuables, such as coins, metals, and gems that have any really substantial value with shipwrecks, but with a few that have major historical significance, such as Titanic and others, every artifact associated with the accident has value. It's kind of funny, because the same environmentalists that have a conniption when a single piece of trash is tossed into the ocean, believe that the thousands and thousands of tons of man made trash that lay at the bottom of the sea from this wreck should stay there, polluting the ocean. But it's okay because it's over 2 miles down in an obscure part of the ocean, and out of sight is out of mind right? Would people feel the same if this wreck was half a mile off the coast of a popular beach? People died when that cruise ship sank just off the coast a few years ago, but nobody suggested that HUGE ship should be left there, polluting the ocean and creating a huge eye sore, just beca...

People died when that cruise ship sank just off the coast a few years ago, but nobody suggested that HUGE ship should be left there, polluting the ocean and creating a huge eye sore, just because it's somebody's grave. That entire ship, which has now finally been removed, will be cut apart and sold for salvage. The people that died that night, many if not most of which were actually plucked from the sea in the wake of the disaster, are long gone, and everything associated with that disaster is now part of history. People buy and sell the most extraordinary historical artifacts every day, it doesn't just sit in museums where most people will never, ever see them (how often do any of you go to museums?). I don't think I'd want to own an artifact from this wreck, just so I could show people and say "look what I have!", but since the people that died with that wreck are long, long gone, in every sense, I have no problem with small artifacts from it being plucked and preserved, by whomever wants to own them, considering that most of them will otherwise eventually break down and turn to silt, forever lost to history.

belong to whoever found them, isn't that the way it goes? If you find an abandoned floating ship you can keep it, if you find a sunken ship you can keep it. Weren't most of the passengers foriegners? If their home countries are not saying anyithing why are we?

It's in International waters, anybody who recovers stuff should be able to sell it to the highest bidder...the idea that they can't, is ridiculous..sort of like the belief that it is a shrine and to be not exploited...bah!!! bunch of romantic spewing of illogic...they are recovering trinkets, not bones for crying out loud...seriously we recovered precious metals from ancient times all over the med...are these relics to be treated with such reverence?..Who gives a crap...passengers didn't own the silverware, it was the company, which is no longer in business or part of a larger company now...The legal issues are bullshit...just lawyers adding up billing hours...
