Mid west Tornados scare the starch out of me. I have (surviving) family in Joplin Mo. Everybody is NOW equiped with heavy duty storm shelters ( I was amazed to discover they had NO shelter before the recent disaster).

When I lived in Asia Typhoons were incredible cataclysms, raindrops hit like bullets, buildings ripped apart the ocean is driven in to the land ships and all.

All that weather drama is entertaining but really its better on the weather channel than out your door.
And really, we pick where we live. If you don't like what you get, maybe its your own fault? Weather, like a wolf, will follow it's own natural way, and can be predicted, in genral at least, earthquakes and all.
So I moved to Central California lol its paradise and only a mild earhtquakes now and then. I have no fear of Tornadoes or Hurricanes now.

Living in Arizona, we don't feel the impacts of hurricanes at all. However, that doesn't mean I'm not concerned. Hurricanes are upheaving and turning upside-down others lives. Just because it doesn't affect you personally doesn't mean you shouldn't have reason for concern.

But not too much. There is still a little La Nina this year so hurricanes are less of a threat than if there is an El Nino.

Dont get hurricanes here but do get gales. My property is insured so if it gets damaged the insurance can pay for it.

I live on the Texas coast and these people love to exaggerate. When are people going to learn that you can report the weather but you cannot predict the weather.

We got hit by Irene last year, so I doubt we'll get hit this year. Besides, they always seem to forecast an "above average" number of hurricanes and they're usually wrong.

with all the new technology one would think they would be able to predict the weather better.. THEY CAN'T.. they said partly sunny today here in IL by afternoon..instead RAIN and CLOUDS all day..

I'm in Jersey. I don't have alot to worry about in the way of hurricanes, maybe a little flooding in the basement, no big deal here.

Hurricanes are no biggie. Most of the times we just get a few days where we sit at home a lot and study new things. Some hurricanes are destructive. I don't worry about that until the storm's passed. Then people get the phone lines and power lines and tree laden objects back up. I'm used to that.

Unlikely to hit Seattle where all we have to worry about is a 9.0 plate plate sub-duction quake that happens only about every 500 years and hasn't happened for ... about 500 years....

No...because I'm in Minnesota....and there is no chance that a hurricane would hit me.

But at the same time, I hope nothing bad happens.

The picture is of a tornado and you are asking if we are worried about hurricanes, We do not have those in the Midwest, but we have tornadoes and they are scary, I would not want to be in a hurricane.
  • Charles... Aurora 2012/08/14 08:27:49

Yeah - I agree - at least with a hurricane, ya got a chance to get the heck out of the way - whereas with a tornado .............. Good luck on that one!
