This may cause arguments, but I felt compelled to share this

Today, has been raining, and cool, nothing to do but sit and think about things, remembering posts from the past from other people.. And one topic in particular.

Was the United States formed under Christian beliefs and principles? Some say yes, others vehemently oppose this...

However, please even if you are Agnostic, or Atheist, Muslim, Progressive, Liberal or Conservative...

Take 1 hour, thats all, 1 hour.. Read over this web site, it is a collection of articles from before our Nations' beginning to creation.

If after you have read through these articles, and still believe that the USA was not founded on Christian principles, regardless if YOU believe in GOD or not.. I really believe there is no hope for our Nation

I'll leave a few quotes so that you can see other opinions by some of those signers of the documents you cite:
I think you'll find these FAR more inciteful and in opposition to what you are saying:

John Adams in a letter to Thomas Jefferson:

"I almost shudder at the thought of alluding to the most fatal example of the abuses of grief which the history of mankind has preserved -- the Cross. Consider what calamities that engine of grief has produced!"

    James Madison:

"What influence, in fact, have ecclesiastical establishments had on society? In some instances they have been seen to erect a spiritual tyranny on the ruins of the civil authority; on many instances they have been seen upholding the thrones of political tyranny; in no instance have they been the guardians of the liberties of the people. Rulers who wish to subvert the public liberty may have found an established clergy convenient auxiliaries. A just government, instituted to secure and perpetuate it, needs them not."

    Benjamin Franklin:

"If we look back into history for the character of the present sects in Christianity, we shall find few that have not in their turns been persecutors, and complainers of persecution. The primitive Christians thought persecution extremely wrong in the Pagans, but practiced it ...

The primitive Christians thought persecution extremely wrong in the Pagans, but practiced it on one another. The first Protestants of the Church of England blamed persecution in the Romish church, but practiced it upon the Puritans. These found it wrong in the Bishops, but fell into the same practice themselves both here [England] and in New England."

I wont go quote for quote, because we could do this all day, the quotes I referenced, do in fact show that the signers had a strong beliefe in Christianity. Also, I wont go quote for quote, you will see that Von Douche and I did that already. All but 3 of the signers were ministers, reverends, and heads or active members in their churches.

More importantly you will also note that they were deists due to their beliefs in Masonry. The facts that they also believed in Christ does NOT denegrate the fact that they thought that an overbearing belief in ANY religion would lead them to the path that caused the to leave England in the first place.

The overall FACT is that they fled England for persecution from not being able to be FREE... .. Free from believing in what EVER religion they wanted to believe in. If you've read all the quotes and pastes from the website I gave you there is NO way you could believe that these men were only CHRISTIANS,,,, or believed that Christianity was their only salvation. Jesus was an example of INCLUSION. I still don't understand why the most hatefull and judgementall replies I get come from 'Christians' when Jesus himself included Prostitutes et al...

1st. I do understand they were not all Christian, and that there were Deists also
2nd. I also know why they left England. (again you mention religion) I never said anything about a specific religion.
3rd. I have not been hateful or judgemental in anyway shape or form, so I hope that you were not including me in your last sentence

I agree...I believe God is what makes our country as great and successful that it is. No where else on this planet are people as God fearing, loving, compassionate, caring, giving, and friendly as the people of America. America founded by the principles and beliefs of God Almighty, and America will not be destroyed less it be God's will.

I have always believed this great country was founded on Christianity. Just as I believe in God and Jesus Christ no one can convince me otherwise.

It was Christians that started the first college universities, pretty ironic how they dismiss Christianty in these same colleges today.

For those non-believers, I'd rather die believing in God even if I die and found out there is not God (but that won't happen, God does exist), than to not believe and die to discover there truly is God!

This has been my motto forever. It's good to know I'm not the only one who believes this. You have nothing too lose believing in God, but everything to gain. For God so Loved the World....... :))

God blessed this Country for many years because the people who founded it believed in God and put their trust in HIM for freedom and prosperity to endure. The word of God is as alive today as it was when it was written. The power of God's word becomes powerful in us as we continue to put our trust in His word through faith.
