There Is No Low Republicans Will Not Stoop To

Meet Maria Gunnoe. We've met her before. She's an anti-coal activist from West Virginia whose water supply had been tainted by run-off from nearby coal mining. Or, according to the coal industry and their lackeys, the GOP, her water got polluted by magic and the coal industry can't be blamed. Ever. Under any circumstances. That's business as usual but how the GOP attacked her wasn't.
This is a picture of a five year old bathing in water polluted by the coal industry:

This picture represents the human cost of the greed of the coal industry. When a coal mine pollutes the water supply of nearby residents, that's it for them. The have a choice: bathe their children in polluted water or not bathe at all. These are not rich people. They cannot afford to move, they cannot afford expensive filters that will only remove some of the filth and they can't live off of bottled water. The coal industry would rather we not know about this kind of thing and the Republican Party is complicit in this deception.
Maria planned on showing this rather disturbing image as part of her presentation to the House Committee on Natural Resources in DC. This is how the GOP reacted:
Yesterday, on the other hand, Maria was told that she would not be allowed to show that photo. It was not appropriate. She had the blessing of the child's parents, but Republicans on the subcommittee alerted the capitol police (according to Spencer Pederson, a spokesman for GOP panel members), and after the hearing, the capitol police took Maria aside for questioning about "child pornography."
Child pornography? I don't know a single parent that doesn't have a picture or video of the unrestrained joy children exhibit when taking a bath. That's what makes this picture so disturbing and powerful; that something so normal and taken for granted by most Americans should be a source of disgust, even for the child taking the bath. Instead of outrage that children are being subjected to this, however, the House GOP was "outraged" at the fact the child was naked.
And now the GOP has resorted to labeling their opponents as pedophiles to silence them? Maria should be fully prepared to have "rumors" of her possible pedophilia to spread throughout her community as easily as the run off from the coal mines spread throughout her water supply. Joe McCarthy would stand in awe of the moral vacuum the modern Republican Party exists in.

NarcolepticGoat 2012/07/23 13:13:54+7Here's hoping everyon offended by the child and not what the child has to bathe in winds up having to drink and bathe in the same quality water. They deserve it.

Republicans are all over Obama and his "hate for coal." Romney chirps about it sometimes, clearly he doesn't know anything about it. Here is his take on coal,( last May in NC ) " I'm for energy both above and below the ground! " Gee, Mitt. That's really a heavy statement. Moron.
The truth is we have already lost hundreds of miles of streams to mountaintop removal mining. Congress should be supporting the Obama administration’s efforts to do something about this problem. But instead they rag on. Republicans have increasingly attacked Obama over coal as falling gasoline prices have deflated GOP criticism of the president on oil and gas production. So, now it's coal.
Obama is not closing coal plants. Many plans for new coal plants had been scuttled even before the new rules were proposed because of competition from inexpensive natural gas..... and that competition is going to continue.
" Fluke has described herself as a third year law student at Georgetown University, and indeed, that is what she is. However, contrary to the narrative of innocent victimhood that portrays Fluke as a wide-eyed 23-year-old girl caught without contraception on a college campus full of predatory men, Fluke herself is really a 30-year-old women‘s rights activist who not only didn’t get caught without contraception at Georgetown, but specifically knew the university didn’t cover it and chose to attend for precisely that reason".
HOW MUCH ARE THEY PAYING YOU TO DO THE SAME????
The fact that you now want tosit and watch innocent children be put to death because of corporate greed is a new low even for you.
You are a truly disgusting human being.
Oh yeah, filtering. PLEASE TRY IT! Just don't expect the people you support polluting the water to pay all those hospital bills, or even own up the fact that it is polluted, and that your representatives deny anything is wrong and do nothing.
EVERYTHING we do, has some adverse effect on some, and the goal is to minimize that for the greater benefit of all. Exploiting a picture of a cherry-picked situation is the only outrage I see here and don't really care what methods were used to prevent the perverse progressives from promoting their asinine agenda once again.
Play with fire, get burned. You're getting a taste of your decades-long tactics jammed right back down your throat.
You know the wheels are fling off the cart and there isn't a thing you can do to stop it.
Grab your ankles and kiss your agenda good-bye. GAME OVER BZZZZZZZZZZZZZ
People used to have the same problem with scooping their water up-stream of where a dead animal carcass was rotting for a month.
It's called common sense and somehow, some people don't seem to possess a whole lot of that these days. Ask yourself, would people have better choices of where to live if the Federal govt. would allow drilling & recovering our resources on Federal lands?
Ever noticed the lack of housing on Federal lands? if we were on those plots, perhaps they wouldn't be mining in areas that pose potential health problems?
Step back and see WHERE the problem begins and perhaps you'll understand the solution.
Do please try to filter out the poison. Give it to your family.
Don't expect too much help with the resulting illnesses.
But remember, you can haul your water from the grocery store, I'm sure they will be grateful for the amount you will have to buy every day. For as long as you live.

Holy sh*t Proud, are you serious?
I'm sorry tommy, I don't mean to take it out on you personally. I know you are a sane man and I actually do look forward to your insights on some topics. But let's get real. The conservative wing of the Republican Party in the United States of America has engaged in a decades long...
I'm sorry tommy, I don't mean to take it out on you personally. I know you are a sane man and I actually do look forward to your insights on some topics. But let's get real. The conservative wing of the Republican Party in the United States of America has engaged in a decades long crusade to destroy every bit of progress this nation has made in the last 200 years, and "both sides do it" just doesn't wash. You can condemn the left for wanting to do too much for too many. You can even condemn them (though I would disagree) for trying to create a "dependency society". But when it comes to wanton violence, the destruction of our local and global environment, and the sacrifice of human rights and human lives for corporate profits, the conservatives are in a class by themselves.
