It's just that this sort of thing will scare them into tightening down the screws and making Big Brother even stronger and more intrusive.

People barely have enough interest to get the vaguest clue about the issues as it is. Can you imagine how nasty it would get if we were all involved in voting on every law?
People would still mostly be mindless puppets, voting the way their Authority Figures tell them to.
The only reason Athenian democracy worked was that the slaves let the owners have enough spare time to actually spend learning about the issues and thinking.
Even then, without a Constitution to define and limit the government, it turns into a tyranny of the majority.
Which is more or less what America has now. We just have a slight buffer with professional elected officials who really don't care about anything except the next election.

What is so very sad about the state of the world, is that it history repeating itself. Its is because of the Neocons, NWO apologists, and corporate globalists. BUT MOST IMPORTANTLY ITS THE LITTLE PEOPLES FAULT! THEY HAVE ALLOWED THE AFOREMENTIONED LIST OF LEADERS TO LEAD WITHOUT OVERSIGHT W/CHECK AND BALANCES.
THE CITIZENS ALLOWED THE BUREAUCRATS AND POLITICIANS TO GET GREEDY AND THIS IS WHAT HAPPENS AND HAS HAPPENED IN THE PAST.
