The Vice Presidential Debate of 2012: How Much Does it Matter?

Thursday October 11th, is nearly upon us. As if it wasn't good enough having baseball playoffs and NFL in the same month we also get political debates too! Team Obama is reeling from an ugly loss to Team Romney in the first Presidential debate. The Dems have to get back on message if they want to generate some enthusiasm.

Personally, I especially enjoy the "second banana" VP debates as two men have to be accountable and articulate about someone else's agenda. Paul Ryan is new to the national debate spotlight so we'll see how he does, and Joe Biden can be strong at times or a gaffe machine at others. The real question is, how much does the VP debate even matter?

EXAMINER.COM reports:
On Oct 11, 2012 Vice President Biden and Rep. Paul Ryan (WI) will meet in a debate that will seek to either re-ignite support for the re-election of President Obama, or solidify the lead and likelihood of a win by Mitt Romney.

I expect Paul Ryan to wipe the floor with Biden and this combined with Obama's dismal performance during the first debate is going to have even the Democrats chewing their fingernails.

It'll be GREATLY entertaining to watch the lawyer/politician who got busted for plagarism call Ryan a liar.

These Sesame Street characters the Dems elevate are just plain funny!

Historically, vice presidential debates mean little or nothing in the long run, but this one should be fun. Paul Ryan has facts and numbers on his side but Biden has been doing this stuff since 1973 and is no push over like Barry. The way this past 4 years has been, economically, Biden should have a hard time defending this administration. Those who think that Biden is a dufass who doesn't know anything may be very surprised. I hope Ryan doesn't underestimate the situation...

If I had been asked this question before the first debate I would have had a different answer, however I watched the debate and found myself glued to it. I was so impressed with Romney, I thought he was intelligent, strong, and very well prepared. Obama keeps trying to say Romney won't tell his policies, I took it he has plans but he is always open to get opinions from both sides. Obama talked that way before he was elected. But once he got in office he divided the democrats and republicans more then anyone ever has, simply by his mouth. He also divided the country more then anyone ever has with his racial comments. He has a plan for this country that is not the way I would want it to go. He has said he's christian but he also has shown his real feelings of being Islam. His wedding ring is for the Islam faith. In America you are free to choose what ever Religion you want, but our President whole heartily is Islam, they want to take over America. Tonight we will be watching Biden and Ryan. Anxious to see how it goes.

A VP could potentially end up being president should the president not be able to complete his/her term.

In the past VP debates were mildly interesting, but this year like 2008 the stakes are so high and so many people are so engaged in the election...The turn out is going to be massive, although some of Obama's support will be diminished, by how much, I'm not sure...but I know the Hope-change thing didn't work out and most rational people know the hope-change thing didn't work out!!!

Let's just say I'm looking forward to another excuse to eat popcorn and watch these two US Senate rivals who have Both been accused of being lug-nuts in suits duel it out on National Primetime television--America is Wonderful. HD makes it even better, minute expression changes that might indicate a zinger hit home show up so much better. Call me bad, It's OK...if the Network could have stripped them down to their boxers and put them in a ring, they would have done it! Debates have taken on a side-show quality that's a bit unbecoming, but frightfully entertaining. Like Sonny and Cher.

Typically, VP debates don't account for too much. This election is different. The President's performance on Oct. 3rd has been the single worst debate performance in modern history, the size of the Romney bounce in the polls has never been seen before. Unfortunately for the Obama team, their go-to guy to get them out of the tailspin is Joe Biden.

romney bounce polls obama team go-to guy tailspin joe biden

It makes a great deal of difference in the vote for the Presidency, and alot of people don't know enough about Ryan yet. I know that Biden will be prepared, but I think that Ryan will best him.

It matters a lot to me, I don't really hate Obama, id say I feel average towards him, I never liked Biden though, and I don't know much about Ryan so it could change my mind on a few things for sure.
