The United States has the highest corporate tax rate in the world. Do you think we should lower the rate to help our economy?

- Brianna Lee May 07, 2011 23:39:28yes+1It makes sense that companies would come back to America if conditions are right. I am not a bigot, but dang I get tired of trying to understand people from foreign countries when I have a computer problem or want to order something. Half of my conversations consist of "what, can you repeat that?"reply

- Scott May 07, 2011 20:40:54noWe actually have the second highest corporate tax rate, just behind Japan. However, corporations do not pay the highest taxes. "Effective" corporate tax rates after exclusions and loopholes) are lower than those in Germany, Canada, India, China, Brazil, Japan and Italy. In fact, plenty of large corporations pay no federal income tax at all in some years. One noteworthy example is General Electric, which reported more than $14 billion in profits in 2010 and paid zero dollars in federal income tax.reply

+1Japan lowered their rate so we do have the highest rate. I agree that corporations find ways to avoid the tax but that is because politicians as favors to corporations put exclusions and loopholes in the system. What we need to do is stop letting the politicians change the tax code to favor the companies donating to their campaigns.reply - Scott E Halom... May 07, 2011 21:14:45
