THE TWO STEPS OF IMPEACHMENT...

Yo'Adrienne..AFCL 2012/06/24 18:11:23
COULD IT BE THIS EASY?
Steps of impeachment?

There is a two-step process involved.
Step One
The House of Representatives holds hearings, then votes to impeach the President.
If the House of Representatives votes in favor, by a simple majority, the House sends Articles of Impeachment to the Senate.
Step Two
The Senate conducts a trial of the President to decide if the President is guilty of the crimes charge in the Articles of Impeachment.
If two-thirds of the Senate votes to accept any Article of Impeachment, the President is automatically removed from office
SO SIMPLE...AND YET SO COMPLICATED.
You!

Clinton was impeached, but remained in office, where he continued to conduct business, albeit not in the customary fashion. Could it be that impeachment is now a political terminology, but not much more than that?

You can't get a conviction in the senate with Democrats (majority) and RINOs (plenty of them.

    Step 1: Impeachment

    Step 2: Conviction.

Clinton was impeached but not convicted.

They knew that they did not have the votes as I recall, but they took a floor vote anyway.

Too many republicans (RINO) voted against it because the media convinced the vocal public that it was wrong to impeach over, "it was just sex." It wasn't, but it scared off the RINOs.

Yes, and having a Democratic Senate that concerns itself not with the law and right/wrong but only whether it's good for their "party", throws everything way out into left field.

Yes it is that easy; but as with most things that deal with the constitution; political parties were not envisioned.

I always wondered about this...they whacked him with the impeachment frying pan: 'There. Let that be a lesson.' Then business went on pretty much as usual, despite his being 'stripped of powers'.

Impeachment is the process; the trial. He was impeached; but he wasn't found guilty.

Even though a majority of the Senate voted to convict, but not the two-thirds required.

Yes; because it takes the 2/3 voting to convict, in order for it to be considered a conviction; and then removed from office.

Here lies the problem; the senate has to many members who feel what Obama is doing is the right thing; and no matter what the evidence is; they won't convict. Just like Clinton; he lied on a sworn deposition, that is purgery (sp), but to many Dem's in the Senate refused to convict on that; stating it was a personal matter and not a political one, so he was found not guilty (lack of 2/3) and was able to go back to buisness as usual.
