The Truth about Bill Ayers

Chicago Sun Times:

April 18, 2008

BY CHRIS FUSCO AND ABDON M. PALLASCH Staff Reporters

Bill Ayers went underground again Thursday.

But this time, it was to avoid a political maelstrom, not the FBI.

Ayers, 63, spent 10 years as a fugitive in the 1970s when he was part of the "Weather Underground," an anti-Vietnam War group that protested U.S. policies by bombing the Pentagon, U.S. Capitol and a string of other government buildings. Nobody was hurt in the attacks by the defunct organization, which the FBI labeled a "domestic terrorist group."

Today, Ayers and his wife -- fellow former Weather Underground fugitive Bernardine Dohrn -- live in Hyde Park, where they moved after surrendering in 1980. Federal charges against the two were dropped because of improper surveillance, so they avoided prison.

Ayers and Dohrn have raised two sons of their own and adopted a third boy whose parents were Weather Underground members who went to prison. They've built stellar reputations as professors: Dohrn at Northwestern's law school, Ayers as an education professor at the University of Illinois at Chicago.

Along the way, they met a rising political star named Barack Obama, who lived in their neighborhood.

The Ayers-Obama relationship became a hot topic in Wednesday's Democratic presidential debate. It is "an issue certainly Republicans will be raising" should Obama be the Democratic nominee for president, Obama rival Hillary Clinton said.

In the mid-1990s, Ayers and Dohrn hosted a meet-and-greet at their house to introduce Obama to their neighbors during his first run for the Illinois Senate. In 2001, Ayers contributed $200 to Obama's campaign. Ayers also served alongside Obama between December 1999 and December 2002 on the board of the not-for-profit Woods Fund of Chicago. That board met four times a year, and members would see each other at occasional dinners the group hosted.

Reached by the Sun-Times on her cell phone, Dohrn declined to comment. Ayers, who was traveling, did not return messages.

But friends like Chicago political strategist Marilyn Katz said Ayers should not be a campaign issue.

Katz met Ayers when he was 17 and they were members of Students for a Democratic Society, a peaceful group from which the Weather Underground splintered. She noted Ayers' work with Mayor Daley to overhaul the Chicago Public Schools and likened him to Black Panther-turned-U.S. Rep. Bobby Rush.

"What Bill Ayers and Bobby Rush ... did 40 years ago has nothing to do with" the presidential campaign, Katz said. Ayers "has a national reputation. He lectures at Harvard and Vassar. He writes the textbooks that are the standard for innovative approaches to reaching inner-city youth."

Ayers, a Glen Ellyn native who became active in SDS while attending the University of Michigan, is the son of late Commonwealth Edison CEO Thomas G. Ayers. Ayers has praised his dad for standing by him while he was on the lam.

A book Ayers penned about those years, Fugitive Days, landed him in hot water on Sept. 11, 2001. That morning, the New York Times ran a story about the book in which Ayers said, "I don't regret setting bombs. I feel we didn't do enough." Ayers' statement was made before the World Trade Center attacks, but its timing led some to believe it was in response. "My book is in fact a condemnation of terrorism in all its forms -- individual, group and official," Ayers later said in a letter to the Chicago Tribune.

Ayers has a Web site, billayers.org, in which he blogs about politics and other subjects. He lets friends and foes post comments.

Charged? It is not guilt by association......... it is the guilt of association.

Get it? People associate for reasons of shared interest and shared values.
You have heard of it......... Birds of a Feather flock together.....
    Obama finds these people acceptable.

This is pure Bull hooey. I knew Michael Ross, but that doesn't make me a mutilating serial killer. I also know someone named Adolph, but that does't make him Hitler or a Nazi.

Obama was 8 friggin years old when Ayers was his neighbor. He and Ayres were at a *Fund Raising Event* , not 'chumming up'.

The Obama-Ayers link has been reported on since at least February this year, after Obama showed he was a genuine chance to win the Democratic nomination. The New York Times investigation concludes that the pair have met a few times but that Obama has kept the ex-radical at arm’s length.

Just because he MET Ayres, doesn't mean they are best of buddies. What next? Guilt by being on the same effing planet?

    THE TRUTH ABOUT OBAMA
Ayers is now a university professor. He and Obama live in the same Chicago neighborhood and served together on the board of the Chicago Annenberg Challenge, a charity group. Ayers also held a meet-the-candidate event at his home for Obama when Obama first ran for office in the mid-1990s.

The UIC records show that Obama and Ayers attended board meetings, retreats and at least one news conference together as the education program got under way. The two continued to attend meetings together during the 1995-2001 operation of the program, records show.

At a Democratic debate this year when the association between Obama and Ayers was raised, Obama said: “This is a guy who lives in my neighborhood. . . . He’s not somebody who I exchange ideas from on a regular basis.” Obama called Ayers’ past radical acts detestable.

The UIC records showed that Ayers was instrumental in securing the $50 million education grant to reform Chicago Public Schools, part of a national initiative funded by the late Ambassador Walter Annenberg. . After Chicago was awarded the money, Obama served as president of the Challenge’s board of directors, the fiscal arm that disbursed the grants to schools and raised private matching funds. “Barack Obama is friends with Ayers, defending him as, quote, ‘Respectable’ and ‘Mainstream,’” the ad states. “Obama’s political career was launched in Ayers’ home. And the two served together on a left-wing board. Why would Barack Obama be friends with someone who bombed the Capitol and is proud of it? Do you know enough to elect Barack Obama?”

Obama can wrap himself in the flag and attempt to gag his critics, but his false portrayal of Ayers as just a guy in the neighborhood is not going to fly. Obama’s friend is America’s enemy.

    And America deserves to know.

The association here is very attenuated. On the basis of that, you and I could be convicted of things we don't even know some of our acquaintances and colleagues have done that we don't even know about yet - or if we heard about, might think could be rumors, or long forgiven by those directly involved.

Shoot, not only that, I would wager he could be labeled 'baby/villager killer', as history has shown that the targets hit by pilots weren't always 'military'. Also, McCain was a fuq up of a pilot to boot.

    THE TRUTH ABOUT OBAMA
Barack Obama's Fannie Mae/Freddie Mac Connection (A MUST READ - ALL AMERICANS!):

Freddie and Fannie used huge lobbying budgets and political contributions to keep regulators off their backs.

A group called the Center for Responsive Politics keeps track of which politicians get Fannie and Freddie political contributions. The top three U.S. senators getting big Fannie and Freddie political bucks were Democrats and No. 2 is Sen. Barack Obama.

Now remember, he's only been in the Senate four years, but he still managed to grab the No. 2 spot ahead of John Kerry — decades in the Senate — and Chris Dodd, who is chairman of the Senate Banking Committee.

Fannie and Freddie have been creations of the congressional Democrats and the Clinton White House, designed to make mortgages available to more people and, as it turns out, some people who couldn't afford them.

Fannie and Freddie have also been places for big Washington Democrats to go to work in the semi-private sector and pocket millions. The Clinton administration's White House Budget Director Franklin Raines ran Fannie and collected $50 million. Now remember: Obama's ads and stump speeches attack McCain and Republican policies for the current financial turmoil. It is demonstrably not Republican policy and worse, it appears the man attacking McCain — Sen. Obama — was at the head of the line when the piggies lined up at the Fannie and Freddie trough for campaign bucks.

Sen. Barack Obama: No. 2 on the Fannie/Freddie list of favored politicians after just four short years in the Senate.

Next time you see that ad, you might notice he fails to mention that part of the Fannie and Freddie problem.

Another Obama Lie…He and The Liberal Socialist Democrats Are the Ones Causing Housing Crisis !!

The liberal socialist Barack Hussein Obama is lying again. Obama blames Sen. McCain and President Bush for the housing crisis, for the collapse of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac. Ask Obama who received the 2nd highest campaign contributions in the last 3 years from Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac? The answer is the liberal socialist Barack Hussein Obama. The lying Obama that says he doesn’t take that kind of money.

Ask who received the most in campaign contributions during that same period. The answer is another liberal socialist democrat, Sen. Christopher Dodd from Connecticut. Also topping the list is Senator. Joseph Biden and his son, Hunter the Washington lobbyist. I haven’t heard the biased liberal socialist press tell you about this. Isn’t it funny how they pick and choose which parts to tell?

Here was the beginning of the demise of Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae, thank you Andrew Cuomo and President Bill Clinton.

On, Sept. 12, 2000 Housing and Urban Development Secretary Andrew Cuomo unveiled a new program that made the dream of homeownership achievable for more than one million working families that had been receiving HUD Section 8 rental assistance vouchers. Under the program, they allowed the Section 8 rental vouchers to be used to purchase homes.

“Homeownership is the best way to build strong, vital neighborhoods,” Cuomo said. “Under President Clinton’s leadership, homeownership rates in the U.S. reached record levels. Thanks to the legislation he signed, today we can tell 1.4 million families you don't have to be a renter forever, you can be an owner, and we're going to help you do it.”

This new program reflected years of work by the Clinton Aministration, Secretary Cuomo announced the program during a speech in New York at Columbia University’s prestigious Moran Weston Lecture Series.

The housing financial problems started under President Bill Clinton, not George W. Bush. President Clinton started the "home for everyone" philosophy, lenders were then put into position to make bad loans or lose other benefits under the Clinton’s administration.

Will the biased liberal socialist press tell you this? Never. The liberal socialist democrats now are circling their wagons. Sen. McCain said long ago Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac needed to be checked, that problems were brewing. President Bush tried to get some regulations passed for Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac but the liberal socialist democrats blocked any changes.

Is that because the liberal socialist democrats were being paid by Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac? I apologize, receiving large campaign contributions? The liberal socialist democrats created this problem. They rather than deal with it they keep the problem going. They would like to blame Republicans for the mess but it is the Democrats mess and the Republicans who tried to fix the problem.

America do you really want the liberal socialist controlling anything, never mind the country?
