I thought there were restrictions on what one could buy with EBT. No beer, no cigarettes, not lottery tickets, etc.

There shouldn't be taxpayers. Your neighbors and politicians don't have the right to vote the fruits of your labor from you. Keep what you earn pay for what you get and if you're in need there are plenty of charities that screen better than the government which doesn't care how it spends your money just that you pay their salaries first.

Ok but we still need money to fund the defense. For the most part I agree with you but we do need some things paid for with the government. Just not all this big nanny state government stuff.

I believe it could be privatized. I know that scares people but it would increase the control over the military by the customer whereas presently it's controlled by aggressive narcissistic psychopaths. Even if someone thinks it couldn't work, I'd be interested in knowing how it would be worse than leaving it in the control of one man.

It state in the US constitution that the government must provide for our defense. Now I will say that I would have no problem charging nations for the use of our army/navy and such at a profit.

Which constitution the government ignores or reinterprets to its own benefit at the expense of the citizens as much as it likes. But I digress.

Anyway, I'm not suggesting turning them into mercenaries for the rest of the world. That's not defense anyway. That's how they are currently used. I'm saying that if citizens had the choice to pay for its activities and if there were a choice in providers it couldn't afford to do things that people did not want them to do because they would simply close their accounts and pay for another provider. Like any other service, they would be beholden to customer loyalty. Right now they get paid whether we like the way they are used or not.
