By now, the rational among us should have recognized that this 'debate' has nothing to do with guns. Liberals simply want to control/own you. To do that, they must take away the means by which we would defend ourselves against them. Liberals/democrats are still the slave-owners of old, only now they don't want to own just ONE race of people. Now they have their sights on everyone.

If you agree with that sentiment, then you'll accept my encouragement to cease letting liberals (slavemaster wannabes) couch the 'gun' control issue under ANY different terms. You'll follow suit by making them see that their efforts are nothing less than attempts to OWN OTHER HUMAN BEINGS. Some liberals may not be conscious of their desire to own others; some may be in denial and some might readily admit to the fact, but let there be no mistake. Those who wish to control guns wish to own people.

Control is a function of ownership. One cannot own something over which s/he has no control, and conversely, one DOES own that over which/whom s/he DOES have control. Liberals want nothing less than to assert their right to OWN other human beings. It's only (for now) a matter of degrees. All they want today is the right to your money (through taxes) and to rob you of your HUMAN right to defend yourself by one silly law after another. Tomorrow, after they've stripped you of the capacity to defend yourself against them, they will come for the rest.

I've been concerned about this too after hearing so many conservatives say that the mentally ill are to blame for all of the mass shootings. They need to understand that if we go this route in trying to curb violence, that the government will only seek to label everyone mentally ill.

This is where new legal and social battle lines get drawn. Abuse of the mental health definition will be closely watched by many. Any hint at abuse will draw a quick and noisy reaction. Get a few congressmen frightened they will loose their seats and things will change.

Obama and his wannabe VP want to disarm so they have total control over the citizens. Anyone who thinks they give a crap about the citizens needs to see a Doctor. As far as I'm concerned they both should be tried for violating their office by way of violating the citizens constitutional rights...
Also ayone who thinks criminals won't still have guns needs to see a Doctor....

This has been done before. Yeah, Hitler did it to the Jews and we all know how that worked out. History tells us that this happens time and time again. Britian has all but outlawed guns. Their gun crime went down yes, but muders went down slightly and the rest sky rocketed.

Bill has it exactly right. Nearly everyone (but not me) would agree that the "mentally ill" should not possess firearms. The problem with this idea is that mental illness is not a black-and-white subject. If you will forgive a bad pun, there is a lot of grey area inside the human skull. Psychology is by no wild stretch of the imagination an exact science...it is highly subjective.

Is the Constitution to be subject to the opinion of every Tom, Dick, or Harriet that has a college degree in psychology?

Correct. I would go further and say, it's no science at all.
It's one person believing they know what you're thinking.

How you and I react to any given situation may be totally different.
I don't get all torn up when someone I loves dies. I'm sick!
I root for the bad guy in a movie. I'm twisted!
And on and on.
Now that's not to say I don't think that we have mentally ill people.
It's just how we go about picking them out.
I don't believe nut doctors are the answer.

One dangerous thing about Obama's and the liberal's proposed universal background check to purchase a firearm, is that if you have ever even talked to a psychiatrist for depression or anything else, or someone has falsely reported that you have a mental problem, you will be denied your second amendment right to purchase a firearm.
