The prophetic words of Paul Harvey in 1965.....did the devil take his advice?

Gracie - Proud Conservative 2012/03/21 22:59:00
In 1965, commentator Paul Harvey wrote this essay about how he would destroy us (America) if he were the devil. Remember this was 47 years ago.

“If I were the devil, I wouldn’t be happy
until I had seized the ripest apple on the tree—Thee. So I’d set about
however necessary to take over the United States. I’d subvert the
churches first—I would begin with a campaign of whispers. With the
wisdom of a serpent, I would whisper to you as I whispered to Eve: “Do
as you please.” “Do as you please.” To the young, I would whisper, “The
Bible is a myth.” I would convince them that man created God instead of
the other way around. I would confide that what is bad is good, and what
is good is “square”. And the old, I would teach to pray. I would teach
them to pray after me, ‘Our Father, which art in Washington…’

And then I’d get organized. I’d educate
authors on how to lurid literature exciting, so that anything else would
appear dull and uninteresting. I’d threaten TV with dirtier movies and
vice versa. I’d pedal narcotics to whom I could. I’d sell alcohol to
ladies and gentlemen of distinction. I’d tranquilize the rest with
pills.

If I were the devil I’d soon have
families that war with themselves, churches that war that themselves,
and nations that war with themselves; until each in its turn was
consumed. And with promises of higher ratings I’d have mesmerizing
media fanning the flame. If I were the devil I would encourage schools
to refine young intellects, and neglect to discipline emotions—just let
those run wild, until before you knew it, you’d have to have drug
sniffing dogs and metal detectors at every schoolhouse door.

Within a decade I’d have prisons
overflowing, I’d have judges promoting pornography—soon I could evict
God from the courthouse, and then the schoolhouse, and then from the
houses of Congress. And in His own churches I would substitute
psychology for religion, and deify science. I would lure priests and
pastors into misusing boys and girls, and church money. If I were the
devil I’d make the symbols of Easter an egg and the symbol of Christmas a
bottle.

If I were the devil I’d take from those, and who have, and give to those
wanted until I had killed the incentive of the ambitious. What do you
bet I could get whole states to promote gambling as the way to get rich?
I would question against extremes and hard work, and Patriotism, and
moral conduct. I would convince the young that marriage is
old-fashioned, that swinging more fun, that what you see on the TV is
the way to be. And thus I could undress you in public, and I could lure
you into bed with diseases for which there is no cure. In other words,
if I were to devil I’d keep on doing on what he’s doing. Paul Harvey,
good day.”

Paul was right, and a good man. A lot of people saw what was coming.

I listened to Paul Harvey enough to know that that was his voice.

The bible says,"then God said"!we all know that words carry extreme power!if i was able to reach the minds of thousands of spiritually blinded people and say if u send me seven dollars God would answer ur prayers, the sad thing is they would!God said,"let Us make man in our image, according to our likeness;like them have dominion."still dont know who us is but the point I am trying to make is,we from the the beginning was given the power to create as God did and it has gotten to the point where we believe in the power of the next man instead of believing in the power within our own selves!not knowing that our belief in their words has the power to become a self fulfilling prophecy because of the energy we put behind that mans words!I wish people would start thinking for themselves more!Jesus said"can the blind lead the blind.will they both not fall in the ditch"!but hey, every man lives & believes how he chooses!this is just my opinion!

Name one thing that makes Jesus a Progressive. I know many people don't seem to understand that compassion and charity isn't state mandated.

His open dealings with women as well as having them as disciples. Expanding the social/religious standards and making them much more inclusive. (Ye have heard it said, but I say unto you...) A common purse. As that covers a great deal of His ministry, I will leave it at. If you wish to get into the nuts and bolts of it, mail me. :)

What did Jesus tell the sinners? He told them to go and sin no more. He forgave them and expected them to change their behavior. The Progressives can't even identify sin and morality, much less expect the sinners to stop. Progressives try to say that Jesus saying "Render therefore to Caesar the things that are Caesar's; and to God, the things that are God's," is somehow an endorsement of taxation. That is certainly not the truth. God expects 10% so to think that Jesus thought that the government taking from people, wasting and using most of it for graph, and enslaving the lower classes and turning it into a caste system as somehow holy is absurd.

Then we have the unfortunate Progressive idea of believing that man can't rule his own life and must be given direction by the "intellectual elites" would defy His teachings.

Then you have the problem called abortion....."Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, And before you were born I consecrated you;....

Like I said before, charity and compassion are voluntary, I've never seen any Biblical verse that indicated it was the job of government and not us. I don't think charity means taking the labor of one and giving to another by force.

If you actually check the history of the Early Century Progressives you'll find it is anything but Christian.

Whew! Seems you have quite the ax to grind with Progressives. That you state "Progressives can't even identify sin and morality, much less expect sinners to stop" is such an outlandish generalization I am of a mind that your mind is made up. There seems little point in sharing my views.

Yes, Progressivism is a cancer. I'm talking about the people that know what it is, not the people that just go with it because it sounds good...."progressive", who doesn't want to be for progress!

It wasn't prophetic, they were in the thick of it at that time, and it is only just now rearing it's ugly face again. It was prophetic like Atlas Shrugged was prophetic, but then again all they had to do was look at what happened to the other countries...
