The BBC reports that Pope Benedict XVI has shut down the Santa Croce in Gerusalemme church in Rome because of questionable goings-on that were rumored to take place there.
There were also reported to be financial problems with the church, but the Pope labeled its fault "liturgical and financial irregularities."
Il Messaggero reports that Simone Fioraso transformed the church, renovating its crumbling interior and opening a hotel, holding regular concerts, a televised bible-reading marathon and regularly attracting celebrity visitors with an unconventional approach.
One of the nuns at the monastery, Anna Nobili, a former lap-dancer, reportedly took part in dance performances with other nuns during religious ceremonies.

Since the monastery was no longer used for what it's supposed to be used, His Holiness was right to shut it down.
Maybe The Supreme Pontiff will reopen the monastery and place it under the control of more trustworthy custodians.
The Vatican; the Pope, want the Catholic's around the world to adhere to doctrine that is outdated, is against birth control, and abortion. Priests can't marry, yet find time to molest children. Pope Benedict get your house in order. Set priorities that will mean something to the everyday Catholic.
I can remember when it was a sin to eat meat on any Friday, now it is only during Lent.
Losing too many members so things changed. It will change again.
Hang in there Progressive Catholics, some day you will be able to dance in church, probably even be able to let out a loud halleluiah. Instead of sitting, standing and kneeling like a bunch of lemmings you will be able to participate in praising God.
Do I agree with the Pope's decision, no, I think the Catholic Church needs some reforms. However, as a Catholic Church they agree to abide by certain rules and if they were operating outside of those rules, it is fair and just for the Pope to take his actions.
What we don't have here is more information such as did the Pope try working with the Parish to bring them back into the fold? And I would think more importantly was the Mass being celebrated appropriately and the Word of God preached in accordance with Catholic doctrine? These should be the issues focused on, not the sensational stuff like the concerts and the nuns dancing.

And I bet you dollars to donuts, too, that the convent was asked by the Vatican to cease and desist first. And that they probably ignored the warnings.
Rumours of innapropriate behaviour? ACTION MUST BE TAKEN.
Did the Church have a lax attitude toward that problem 20 or 30 years ago? Yes, it did. So did every other institution that works with kids.
THESE DAYS, though, the Church does not take the issue lightly at all. In fact, it is probably more serious about the issue than anyone else who works with kids is.
That's certainly true of the public school systems. Its track record was horrible then, and it's still horrible now -- but all we hear about is the priests.
Stop. Living. In. The. Past. The "priest-pedophile" thing is OLD news. Most of it happened years, even decades, ago. It's not happening nowadays. You can count the number of incidents that occurred in 2010 on two hands. Literally.
They are never EVER sanctioned for their actions, tell people to stop living in the past? You stop supporting a cult of evil men who get off on their own corrupt power.
