"The needs of the many out weigh the needs of the few, or the one" - Star Trek III, and in Liberal politics?

We now live in a society where political philosophies of the Left mirror pop entertainment sound bites. Is “the needs of the many out weigh the needs of the few, or the one” really mean the desires of the many out weight the liberties of the few or the rights of the one?

Ever listen to a beautiful song by John Lennon called “Imagine”? Is this also being reflected in the political philosophy of the Left?

"You cannot help the poor by destroying the rich."
"You cannot strengthen the weak by weakening the strong."
"You cannot bring about prosperity by discouraging thrift."
"You cannot lift the wage earner up by pulling the wage payer down."
"You cannot further the brotherhood of man by inciting class hatred."
"You cannot build character and courage by taking away people's initiative and independence."
"You cannot help people permanently by doing for them, what they could and should do for themselves."

"The needs of the many out weigh the needs of the few, or the one"

Has NOTHING to do with "liberalism". An elite "few" can't keep benefitting while everyone else is struggling.

Actually ot no longer the needs, it's the desires of the many including you and I. We may earn our way but we still expect the government to take care of us.

It has everything to do with liberalism / progressivism.

I value the rights of the individual over the rights if the state, progressives do not.

Example: If there was a disaster and 99 people in the neighborhood were without food. 1 person had food saved up. A progessive would feel justified in taking the food from the one in order to feed the many. The progressive would value the needs of the many over the few, or the one.

I would rcognize that the individual with the food had personal property rights that outweigh the needs of the many.

This is another expression of the Utilitarian concept of
" The greatest good for the greatest number " .
A concept Americans find repulsive with the American belief for rights of the Individual.

It used to be a virtue to care for your 'neighbor,' that's what Christianity is supposed to be about. Repugs have abandoned that Christian tenet, and now only want to look out for themselves. The more I hear conservatives talk, the more I believe the word liberal is a compliment.

It was in Star Trek 2 not 3. If you are going to quote it at least get it right.

"really mean the desires of the many out weight the liberties of the few or the rights of the one?"

No, it means the needs. As in the needs of the many (lives everyone on the ship) outweigh the needs of the few (Spocks life). Stop trying to pervert a good saying to support your twisted reasoning.

rights lives ship outweigh spocks life pervert support twisted reasoning

I know it was II. I was making the point that it has become a phylosophical political dream. To take care if everyone whether they need it or even want it. I've seen the move a dozen times including today. It was Star Trer\k II, I said II. I also watched III today.
