The Impending Violence Of The Failing Right Wing
May 29, 2012
By Justin Rosario

I’ve written about this several times and it is absolutely vital to remember: time is not on the side of the right. The base of the conservative movement is old, white, Christian and extremely bigoted. As they die off (while draining every penny from Medicare, the kind of government program they claim to despise), they will not be replaced and the right knows it. The homeschooling movement among Evangelicals will not pump out enough brainwashed, science hating, religious fanatics to replenish the ranks (even if they turn their women into debased breeders, see Quiverfull) of the self centered and easily-swayed-by-greed Baby Boomer generation that is not going gently into that good night.

What will be left will be an ethnically and religiously diverse country that is not interested in the kind of hate that is the sole motivating force underlying conservative politics. This is the reason for the massive overreach of the 2010 GOP: they need to get their policies into place and try and cement them in the public’s mind before they permanently lose power. In the end, however, we’ll reject the wedge politics and move the country forward. The real question is how much damage the right will do in the meantime. Sara Robinson at Alternet brings up a troubling point about this eventuality:

In the meantime, the danger of political violence may actually get worse. Right-wing domestic terrorists are at their most virulent when they’re furthest back on their heels politically. Over the course of the next decade — as the very different priorities of that younger, more urban and diverse voter cohort come to dominate the nation’s political agenda – we can expect to see an uptick in violent retribution as the most militant members of the far right make a desperate last stand for their vision of the country’s future.

As usual, the biggest trouble will likely come in the states where the friction between far-right conservatives and this new emergent electorate has already heated up to the flash point — Arizona, Florida, Oklahoma, Texas, and similar states where the old guard had been counting on fascist solutions to keep a new generation it fears under control. Alternatively, the violence will start in these states, but be directed against coastal big-city targets seen as representing the decadent society the far right refuses to accept. Either way, the more ground they lose, the wiser we’d be to expect them to try to take their frustration out on the rest of us.

There’s a cheery thought; the crazed hardcore militia types already think America has been overrun by Nazi immigrant Commie fags. What happens when what they actually fear, a loss of the unearned status and privilege that comes with being a White heterosexual Christian male, comes to pass? The paranoia that is the hallmark of the right will explode. Quite probably literally. There’s a dark and ugly chapter of American history coming and the last decade has just been a prologue. The upshot is that there is a light at the end of the tunnel and the GOP will be left in the dustbin of history.

It’s up to us to make sure that happens by voting in November and in every election we can. Voting is our weapon and you can be sure the right is terrified of it.

These conservative domestic terrorists scare me more than peaceful Muslims living here. When a Kansas legislator introduces a bill to make it legal to kill abortion doctors the hair should stand up on the back of our necks. These religious freaks are vicious and bigoted. Too many con hate merchants are armed and dangerous now, and think nothing of bombing or burning abortion clinics. With militias and white supremacists becoming more vocal, and a white nationalist accepted at the CPAC meeting there will be trouble sooner or later as the population becomes less white.

Just look at what's happening right now in Georgia, where 3 women's clinics have been burglarized and 2 have been set on fire (the FBI is investigating and suspects arson).

I think you're being extremely optimistic here. If the election of Obama has showed us anything, it's that there are plenty of YOUNG, white, far right, hyper-Christian bigots to replace the old ones when they die.

Red states churn them out like Detroit makes cars.

Right wing.......why so worried about anarchists? They hate everything anyway.

Don't trouble yourself my friend. What we need to be worried about is tyranny from the progressive left that comes in multiple crappy flavors like Poopie Democrat and Piss Yellow Republican.

What have we ever lied about? Right Wing violence IS getting worse. Look at the attacks you've encouraged against Occupy Wall Street. How about assassinating abortion doctors, holocaust museum guards, MEMBERS OF CONGRESS? How about the Right Wingers in Michigan who planned to assassinate a police officer and then bomb his funeral to kill more cops? I believe that given the rhetorical extremes the Right Wing has already gone to in their efforts to minimize one of the most successful and accomplished Presidents this nation has ever had, if their efforts at voter suppression and brainwashing of the great ignorant masses fails that they will not wait four more years, but will attempt to incite a violent end to the United States of America. Conservatives tried it in 1861 and failed, and perhaps it is providence rather than coincidence that we have a leader today who seems every bit as capable as Abraham Lincoln was to try to hold this nation together this time around.

You sure write nice. There is a school of thought that old Abe sent those supplies and reinforcements to Fort Sumter (I think) thinking it would spark a conflict. You telling me you think our current President has the capability of something like that?

Well, most recently your response above. What right wing violence? What attacks against occupy anything but a job? What assassination?

Are these mythical events perpetrated by Romney staffers or is it more like some stray nut that you choose to call a conservative. At least be honest Proud. When you get like this with all your exaggerations, stretches of the truth, out and out lies, it gets pretty exasperating. If Sodahead had a punch in the nose button, I would have pressed it on you a number of times. (Was that a threat of assault?) Give it to CNN or ABC, they know how to twist words and fabricate stories from less than that!

    Since Elija was too lazy to include information about the photos;

The first one George Tiller - Tiller was shot through the eye and killed, by anti-abortion activist Scott Roeder, as Tiller served as an usher during the Sunday morning service at his church in Wichita. Roeder was convicted of murder on January 29, 2010. Roeder was an anti-abortion activist. That does not equal Republican any more than douche bag equals democrat. (Hmm, maybe a bad example)

The second is Gabrielle Giffords, a former democrat Congresswoman shot by Jared Lee Loughner - (why do they always have three names?) Loughner is wack job loser and has been his whole life. What ever his political views, they are secondary to the fact that he's nuts.

The last on is Matthew Wayne Shepard. He was brutally murdered by two alcoholic druggies.

Since Scott is so keen on sharing information, but not as keen on sharing ALL of it; I'll clarify. It isn't just registered Republicans, who are a threat. It is the CONSERVATIVE movement, and particularly the RELIGIOUS Conservative movement.
Scott Roeder is a devout Christian-Conservative. I don't know if he's registered or not, politically; but his views are obviously, and admittedly Conservative. No, it is NOT a bad example. Loughner IS a whack-job and a loser, as was Lee Harvey Oswald. And in addition to shooting Rep. Giffords, he also shot and killed a judge with a reputation as a liberal, when he opened fire on a crowd of people gathered at the political rally for the DEMOCRATIC Representative of Tucson, AZ.
And the guys who beat Mathew Shepard and left him tied to a fence out in the woods to die from the injuires they inflicted; committed this brutal act against Shepard because he was gay.
These were three acts of inhuman violence committed by deeply disturbed individuals, acting on their political and religious extremism. An extremism which is spreading like a virus right now among American Conservatives.

Elijah has made the same crucial error that many progressives make and that is to jump to conclusions. Often based more on feelings than fact. By Elijahs own admission he doesn't even know Scott Roeder's political affiliation, let alone what his motivation was in killing George Miller. And the same is true for the other murderers.

Elijah was quick to condemn me for not sharing "this additional information". I didn't share it because it is not known - it is only Elijah's opinion.

I'm certainly not defending the heinous acts of any of these nut jobs, including Elijah. The attack I AM defending against, is the one Elijah is attempting against Conservatives.

And, lets suppose for a moment that Elijah's supposition were true. That these whack jobs perpetrated their crimes because of their perception of their own political beliefs. You can't hang an entire political party for the twisted thoughts of an individual. If you could, how would you reconcile, oh let's sayTed Kennedy leaving a girl to drown in his car that he just drove into the water?

Ok this third-person crap is getting old.
A persons political registration is not the only indicator of their politics. Not all Democrats are Liberal; and though it seems to be the case right now, not all Republicans have always been Conservative. But anti-abortion has ALWAYS been a Conservative position. Roeder shot Dr. Tiller because Tiller performs abortions. That is the only reason. This was a politically-motivated assassination, committed by a Conservative, in the name of his Conservative values. You can spin until you're dizzy, and it won't change that fact.
  • Scott elijahin24 2012/06/01 15:14:52

Even if Roeder is a registered Republican, voted for Bush, joined a Tea Party and contributed $10,000 to the RNC - how does his insane, murderous act become the fault of the Republican party? That ain't spin Elijah.

Suppose your brother held up a bank. Should they arrest you? It's the same logical thread.

Maybe it's YOU that has been spinning, eh?

Legally, no. The Republican Party (though I prefer to use the term "Conservatives" because they are not all IN the Republican Party) is not LEGALLY responsible for anything that Roeder or any of these other murderers did. However, If I were to create a climate, where I've persuaded my brother that he is morally justified, or even morally obligaged to hold up a bank, I am MORALLY responsible. Conservatives have, for years, called abortion "murder". Bill O'Reilly regularly called Dr. Tiller "Tiller the baby killer". The radical right has created an environment in which those who do not share their beliefs, are seen as evil and unpatriotic, and who must be stopped by any means necessary. That HAS led to assassinations in the past, and will continue to do so in the future.

I've noticed this rise in hate groups and violence on the extreme right as well. fear and hate mongering have very real consequences. most conservatives are too short-sighted to see that their words have impact beyond Fox's camera monitors.

That's absolutely untrue. The "far left" does not have militias planning to assassinate police officers and then bomb their funerals to take out more police officers. They do not push for gun laws that make it perfectly ok for some redneck bigot to gun down an innocent teenager in cold blood for the crime of buying a pack of skittles. They do not assassinate abortion doctors. They do not attempt to bomb think tanks. They do not openly call for people to go out and shoot their Congressmen and they do not post gunsight maps to help them do it. They do not call for "Second Amendment solutions". They do not bring assault weapons to town hall meetings. They do not carry signs that say "We Came Unarmed This Time".

The Chertoff Report predicted exactly this sort of rise in Right Wing Extremism and calls for violence, and when President Obama is re-elected it will only get worse.
