It seems the economy is getting worse by the day with trillions in debt at the national level and no relief from the federal government what can be done --some indicators say there will be no improvement until 2019. Can the Governor become more involved what can be done ? We are sinking fast!!

First of all, you should not even expect the Federal Government to bail out California... after all, your not a bank or home lender...

Cut spending to the minimum. If it isn't essential, don't buy it or use it. Cut the work week for state employees to 35 hours and cut pay to match. (Temporary until it recovers) Legalize marijuana, only the state grows and packages and sells. Home growers pay a $25 per plant tax, anyone selling or buying illegally, send to prison for 10 years... (Makes one think state pot ain't that bad after all) Stop all state aid to illegals, (Food stamps and medical care) If they aren't legal, they aren't entitled.

Allow non violent offenders in prison the opportunity to buy out some of their time... (MONEY FOR YEARS) then put them on parole with parole fees.

Have state prisons take a page from Sheriff Joe Arapio, follow his food service guidelines for his jail .... will save millions. Stop paying all of your state legislators until the state is back in the black.

Stop all government subsidizing of professional sports. Maybe even put an additional $2.00 tax on professional sports tickets and Opera tickets and plays etc...

Slap an extra .50 on to each beer purchase, $2.00 on each liquor purchase and $5.00 on a pack of smokes...

The problem with the leadreship in California is the legislature, which is who runs the state now. Grey Davis allowed gambling in which gave people a place to spend their money other than paying their bills and the unions and legislature runs things. Even with California hurting and making people only work four days they are still hiring people. They keep spending and then crying they dont' have enough money while blaming the Governor, which is convenient since he isn't a Republican but does have an " R " next to his name. It's a joke but the bottom line is the more people working for the state means they have more power when it comes to voting time and the people that work there want their " free-ride " to continue so they just keep walking in lock-step. Hey, as long as it works out for them, what does it matter how it affects the rest of us? I guess it's the needs of the few out-weigh the needs of the many after all.

Cut taxes and people spend more not less. Every time they raise taxes people spend less. You'd think that people would finally learn.

Oh, and kick the illegals out fast. That was the State won't be paying for them. The jobs the illegals have been doing will be done but citizens so the pay for unemployment will go down and those on Welfare can go and get a job.

Here's a novel idea.......cut spending! I remember reading somewhere that the State pays for Sexual Reassignment. To each their own; but on the taxpayer's backs? (One of many examples I've heard of.) They also need to cut taxes. I'm meeting more and more productive citizens locally who've fled "taxifornia:.

I agree with your 1st, 3rd and 4th paragraphs completely! I don't think raising taxes will do anything but further hurt the state. The high taxes are why the productive are leaving Cali, putting it into the red further. Meanwhile, many indigents keep on coming for the freebies and subsidies the government is handing out. The money has to come from somewhere to pay for all that crap.
