Thanksgiving Is Getting More Expensive: Are You Concerned?

It's hard enough scraping by in this economy, but shouldn't Thanksgiving be a time of rest, relaxation, and respite? Unfortunately, the market is not subject to holiday cheer. According to the American Farm Bureau (AFB), the cost of a Thanksgiving dinner for 10 has risen $5.73 just in the last year.

When you break it down, that's only about 50 cents a person, but Public Radio International reports it's the biggest increase since 1990. Turkey has gone up 25 cents a pound, and senior economist with the AFB explained, "Really, across the board, we saw increases in the price of most of the [Thanksgiving] items on the survey." Everything but carrots and celery.

I can't believe no is leading in the votes. Food prices are sky high. If you want the food without all the chemicals its even more. I guess I'm the only one that thinks 3-4 dollars for a gallon of milk is outrageous.

To solve this problem have everyone pitch in for the turkey and everyone bring a side
dish. This might help the ones who are deprived of money. If nobody is coming than
try a simple dish and real small turkey or chicken or whatever you like. But everything
is going up and it is a problem everyone seems to have except maybe the rich. hmmm

We all know that everything will cost money no matter how you and I cut the prices of everything will rise. It's how you go about buying necessities for the Holiday's. Learn to be a little FRUGAL.

I usually go to someone else's place for the holiday and meal. I do bring a dish or couple bottles of wine as a courtesy though. It's not like I am free loading. And this includes friends or family depending upon where I end up for the holiday. I always offer to help out, but the offer has always been refused. I still hear the same even though I still bring a dish or wine that I need not do so. Just good social manners in my book. No such thing as a free lunch. Or dinner for that matter.

Most people don't price compare. They'd rather pay what ever price is given them at their favorite, local supermarket, than look at the stores' ads to see if another store has a better price across town or not.

Your still going to eat and in the long run you won't give a turkey about the prices.

You would if you live in a multy-supermarket area. If one store has it for say, .20 cents less, per pound, then, it's say to say that you'd scout around for a better price.

Food in general have gone up and yes I am concern about the price of food, it's ridiculous! I paid more this year for food to serve for Thanksgiving than last year even though we all had a great time together!

My lobster was $10.99 a pound. No different than in 2006. Sometimes, it still goes to $9.99 a pound.

I do hope ytou dipped it in melted butter (3.75 per pound) which makes it so delectable.

Actually, butter isn't that expensive at Whole foods... Go figure that one? But no, I like it best dipped in a true home made mayonnaise made from egg yolk, Dijon mustard, olive and canola oil with a touch of salt, pepper and very finely chopped garlic for additional flavor.

Regardless of whether it is for a holiday or not, I am very concerned about the steady rise in the cost of food in particular and consumer products in general. As if the economy and employment situation were not bad enough, the steady inflation makes it all that much worse.

Everything is going up. My wife and I set down to figure why we were struggling so hard financially. The Nickle and Dime increases in expenses have raised our monthly out go by nearly $300.00 per month. On January first my takehome pay will decrease by an adittional $70.00 per month. This is not just happeing to us, but to this is happening nation wide.

When he is full, maybe he won't celebrate it either. Liberal ingrate. Count this (and your) country's blessings and the good it has done rather than looking back in anger. The past can't be cured but a better future can be brought about. You're just the Grinch who stole Thanksgiving.
