Even if the mother is mentally unstable, life in prison is a little steep... It is possible she believed all those things she told the police, i.e. that the dad was abusing the daughter, therefor, the mother might have thought she was protecting the daughter. We don't know what the mother thinks. the child is back and safe and that's what matters the most.
true she took her own child yet you forget to mention that she took her child to the forest to kill her daughter, so yes she deserves life in prison because she is facing a whole slue of charges which include...
Kidnapping a minor, taking minor across state line (which is a federal crime), attempted homicide, and probably a few others as well.
Other states are not that harsh however Texas is right in seeking a life sentence for a mother for attempting to murder her own daughter after kidnapping her.
Smith sparked a multi-state Amber Alert last week after she left the state with her daughter Jessica. She is accused of trying to smother her daughter on the day the two disappeared.
The Tarrant County District Attorney's Office said she intended to hurt or terrorize the child. The two were found in New Mexico, with Jessica unharmed, several days later.
Smith is currently being held in a New Mexico jail. If convicted, she could be sentenced to life in prison.
