Texas Loses Entire Women's Health Program Over Planned Parenthood Law

(▪‿▪)DoctorWhoGuru(▪‿▪) 2012/03/16 00:15:30
The Department of Health and Human Services announced on Thursday that it will cut off all Medicaid funding for family planning to the state of Texas, following Gov. Rick Perry's (R) decision to implement a new law that excludes Planned Parenthood from the state's Medicaid Women's Health Program.
Cindy Mann, director of the Center for Medicaid and State Operations (CMSO), wrote Texas health officials a letter on Thursday explaining that the state broke federal Medicaid rules by discriminating against qualified family planning providers and thus would be losing the entire program, which provides cancer screenings, contraceptives and basic health care to 130,000 low-income women each year.

The Republicans must be insane and/or suicidal. Governor vaginal probe Perry better enjoy the rest of his term as governor as he won't get another one. This removes free clinics and Planned Parenthood funding which helps thousands of Texas women.

I live in Texas and I didn't vote for Perry or any of the extreme religious right that have taken over down here. They say they will continue to provide for women's health with out the federal money. I don't believe them, our state government does not care about the poor.

It's a good thing Texas has a backup plan & is not hating on or abandoning women. Liberals have got to be the dumbest people on earth if they believe Texans, whose population is filled with women, would actually find it healthy to prevent women from having health care. You've got to be kidding!!

Can you make your point without name calling and assuming that everyone who doesn;t agree with you is a Lib? Once you are ready and able to do that then we can have a real conversation on the issue.

You're the first person to ask. Everyone else was just slamming Texans & Rick Perry. Yes, each of them was a "lib", sorry if that offends you; it did me.

I'm going to give you a link to read. I hope you read it. Our legislators agreed w/ Perry, but they do NOT plan on abandoning women in our state, & to say that Texas & Republicans hate women is not only disingenuous & a political ploy, it is an out & out LIE. I am angry when people lie intentionally, & saddened when it is done out of abject ignorance & naiveity. Half or more of Reps (or conservatives) are women, so to even suggest we hate ourselves is ridiculous. This whole thing has backfired on the POTUS [whom shall remain nameless] & Democrats, because intelligent women know that their accusations are out in "left-field" (literally).

As a formerly "poor" woman, & as a registered nurse who has spent many years working & teaching in county hospitals in Texas, I can honestly say that you are not telling the truth. The county hospitals treat both men & women in their free clinics, which have satellite clinics all over the state. We have a robust WIC program for mothers, & we hand out birth control like it was candy. Those free clinics also include pre-natal & peri-natal care. The Visiting Nurse Association is also in thousands of Texas women's homes, teaching, caring & supporting.

All government-run programs have their problems, including reaching rural communities, but please don't be spreading lies in order to advance your political & outlandish idea that conservatives don't care about women. As a conservative woman INVOLVED in the public administration of that care, I resent the propaganda that you & yours insist on spreading. If you're not getting the care you think you deserve, then you have not looked or asked for it. Many conservative nurses even give free care & advise to neighbors & friends, & we usually do it without broadcasting it to the liberal population who have as their goal to malign & mock conservative women just because we think differently and actually have a moral authority.

That's what happens when a state refuses to be a whore for the federal government. If you don't do their bidding, the feds punish & ostracize. It doesn't matter to them that the citizens of Texas help pay for the funding they are refusing us. Democrats really don't care about people, they care only about control.

And yet, we have a better economy than most states. Remember, when a state is on a border that is not protected by the feds, they end up trying to support all the illegal immigrants PLUS our own. Texas & other border states have told the feds that it is "unsustainable", but the feds still remain with closed ears.

(sigh) Jane, you sound like a hate-filled & embittered woman. You can't possibly be easy to live with.

Atheists are not being neglected in Texas. I treat my atheist patients the same way I do my "religious" ones, as do every nurse I know. I would say, if anything, that the atheists hate the religious, for they are the ones working diligently on removing any hint of God from our public buildings or discourse.

The POOR are not being neglected in Texas as I outlined for you in a previous post. We DO have an inordinate amount of "Illegal" immigrants who are trying to suck the life out of our health care & educational systems.

Your savior, the current POTUS [who shall remain nameless], has got you guys so divisive & full of hate toward others not like you, that you spend an inordinate amount of time projecting that hate onto others. That CAN'T be good for your digestion or soul, & it definitely is not good for the nation as a whole. Stop the insanity!!

Ooh, nothing intelligent to add to the conversation, so you resort to the ole liberal name-calling tactics, eh? Were you born & raised in a double-wide? Your mama must be proud of her little girl swearing like that!! Why do you hate women?

Why do you think my "assumptions" are wrong? Do you honestly think I can live in Texas for 56.5 years, work with the "poor" & "religious" & actually not know how they are being treated? Serious?

NOPE NOT AT ALL. It is the idiots in the state houses that are to blame. They know the consquences of writing unconstitutional laws.

The net consquences will be they will loose their positions as state representatives and we will get a new batch of idiots.

I imagine there could be found corruption in every state in the Union, as well as the highest office in the land. Our POTUS is one of the most corrupt persons to hold the office, & he came from Illinois. Let's see, California, . . . don't you guys have human & drug trafficking, sexual scandals, & all kinds of corruption in your lil ole state? In fact, your state is considered one of the worst states economically in which to live. And you guys have Hollywood, which is THE capital of corruption & sleaze. No, I think you ought to just stay where you are & don't bother coming to Texas to dirty it. Thanks.
