Because every time minimum wage goes up so does the price of EVERY product you use. EVERY SINGLE ONE. The companies don't just eat the change in the bottom line. Just like when taxes go up. YOU the consumer pays the difference.

Minimum wage jobs are set asides. NO ONE can live on minimum wage alone. You are not supposed to. Aspire to more and then WORK TO MAKE IT HAPPEN. Min wage is for students (who live at mom and dads house) and the seniors who want to work (but have income from retirement etc). It is for an entry level, no skill required job. Stick with it and aquire some skills and get a raise. Go back to school and get a raise.

The raise you get when min wage goes up (if YOU even see a raise) will be gone the first time you go to McDonalds. Or Walmart.

Min wage is not good for our country at all, and keeping it "going up" is very bad.

You still can't explain why a small increase in minimum wage is wonderful but you don't support a large increase in minimum wage with no explanation of why.

Really? That's interesting because the minimum wage was much higher back during the 50's in proportion to the cost of living under Eisenhower. FDR actually tried to pass an amendment making companies pay people livable wages, but that all got shot down.

By keeping them from being able to enter the work force in the first place. By forcing employers to raise wages, they have to pay fewer workers with the same amount of money. Employers don't all of a sudden magically have the extra money to give their employees just because the government says they should. Not only that, but these laws favor larger companies over smaller ones. You think the mom and pop that makes just enough to pay their bills, lives in a modest house and drives a modest car and still barely makes ends meet can afford to pay their employees the same as McDonald's? Why is that relevant? Because small business, not large ones, are responsible for the most jobs. You do things that hurt small businesses, you are going to have a bigger negative impact on the economy and the unemployment rate will go up.

Everybody has to enter the workforce somewhere, and usually it's at the bottom. If employers and businesses are paying more, then more people will work for them and they'll make more money. It worked just fine back during the 50's. I don't think it's really asking too much to raise the minimum wage to $10 or even $15. $10 sounds about right to me because that's the inflation adjusted wage compared to the salaries today as opposed to those in 1968 when minimum wage was actually higher.

But having an artificial minimum wage means fewer jobs. Employers can't just magically poop out the money they need to pay their workers more, so they hire fewer workers, thus harming the poor, minorities, and young people.

When more people have more money to spend, companies will make more money and then will have more to pay their employees. Rather than trying to give it all to lobbyists and other things for the CEO's to flaunt their social status, they could give their employees livable wages. It's all a very symbiotic process. You act as if keeping people poor and minorities down is a good thing.

Listen I am barely making ends meet. My salary is well below the poverty line and if it weren't for family, I'd be on the dole and on the street, so you can just go to hell.

And gas prices are out of control because of inflation, not the other way around.

WHY do conservatives want everyone to work for SLAVE WAGES? I can't think of anyone who would want to work for 30 cents an hour. Keep minimum wage IN PLACE.

Lets start with saying that if the GOVERNMENT and the FED didnt legally have the authority to counterfeit money, there would be no need to raise the minimum wage! Sound Money promotes financial security! Minimum Wage being raised only means more counterfeit money being printed and more hyper inflation resulting in even higher prices! Lets get rid of the FED and restore the gold standard, or resort to silver as currency, or at least have the silver or gold backing our dollars again!

Because every time the minimum wage is raised, unemployment for the young and unskilled goes way up. True minimum wage is ZERO!

When wages for the unskilled and uneducated go up you have to raise everyone else up also. In the end you're still at the bottom and everything costs more so you've gained absolutely nothing!

You've actually lost ground. for every 1% raise in the minimum wage it will cost an employer about 1.3% and thus to cover this cost their product costs have to go up. In addition, every purchase means more sales tax is paid, thus unless the tax rates go down, there is no mathematical way for minimum wage to keep up with the inflation that it creates.

Well that's interesting because minimum wage in proportion to the cost of living is lower now than it's probably been in the past 100 years, and the unemployment rate is highest since it's been since the Great Depression.

Minimum wage is the governments fault and if that were stopped price increases would also stop, or at least slow down.

I want the government to stop price fixing labour costs so the prices of products can stabalize.

Higher minimum wage causes higher product prices resulting in a demand for more minimum wage increases causing more price increases ...

Actually you might want to get some of your statistics straight. Minimum wage has only gone up about $.50 in the past decade, but the price of gas has soared through the roof because of ethanol and because of the wars.

Increasing world demand also helped raise the price of gas.

But since you brought it up, ethanol is another example of government forcing people to purchase a substandard product at a premium price.

While employers can refuse to hire workers who are not worth the government dictated minimum wage, if you drive a car the government has s**##ed you.
