Teen Refuses to Apologize to Kansas Governor: Admirable or Stubborn?

Emma Sullivan didn't think Kansas Gov. Sam Brownback would see her derisive tweet, but someone on his staff did. Now she's at the center of a real-life dispute with the governor. According to The Associated Press, Brownback's office contacted the school about the tweet, and the principal immediately ordered Sullivan to write an apology.

Sullivan refused.

Last week, the 18-year-old Shawnee Mission East senior tweeted, "Just made mean comments at gov. brownback and told him he sucked, in person #heblowsalot." Though she says she was joking about the "in person" part, she's not joking anymore. She told AP, "I would do it again ... I think it would be interesting to have a dialogue with [Brownback.] I don't know if he would do it or not though. And I don't know that he would listen to what I have to say."

    Idiot, more like it!

Her comment was plain trash and out of line, because she made a false statement, and then backtracked.

Since her idiocy is protected by "free speech" and was not written on school property,
the principal should not have been involved.

It's a lot of hoop-de-doo about an ignorant high school student who lied when she made a derogatory comment about a governor, who should have ignored the pond scum remark!

Idiot, rude teenagers are better off avoided and not given a platform!

another teen being disrespectful of their elders. If she has something really important to say, then say it with respect. 15 minutes of fame will be over soon for her.

You Go Girl;-] Stick to your guns, if this bothers him! Maybe he has a guilty conscience about something;-] I would think a governor had better things to do then waste his time on a comment like this! Congress Sucks! along with this governor from Kansas!

Actually, the Governor apologized to her already after he discovered that his staff over-reacted. http://www.washingtonpost.com...
And it was the principal of the school who demanded she apologize, not the Governor nor his staff.
However, the reason she called him names is because he revoked public funding for the arts throughout the state, something that seems very reasonable to me. In these harsh economic times, states must be lean and mean. The spoiled union members in Wisconsin were outraged that their Governor had the cajones to ask that they pay the same as people in the private sector, not unreasonable at all. Sorry, the arts doesn't warrant the priority at the taxpayer's expense. This little girl needs to learn that.

True, but the only choices were "admirable" and "stubborn". Since I didn't think it was "admirable", I chose "stubborn".
Obviously, this is a non-issue. I just didn't think it was portrayed accurately here.

Another question with no correct choice. She has the right to say it, even though, she is brain washed the left wing wacko way. I also think the governor should have let it slide and not said anything about it, or he could have just said, ignore her, she's just a little brain washed liberal bitch.

John Hausman had a TV show back in the 70's, "The Paper Chase" based on his role in the movie. His opening lecture was, "You come in here with a mind full of mush..."
    Yes, I meant the girl.

Instead of demanding an apology like a 3rd grader, maybe the governor should be an adult and maybe find out if her complaints are legitimate, unless she didn't say anything real, then he should ignore her.
