A music teacher said Tuesday that Cincinnati Hills Christian Academy changed its mind about hiring him because he is gay.

The case is the latest in a string of local and national conflicts involving religious institutions firing employees based on what they say are religious reasons but what some critics say are discriminatory reasons.

While I fully support gay rights. I also support the rights of other people as well. Christian Schools are private organizations that have the right to be discriminatory. If he wishes to be a teacher then he should apply to a public school.

People need to learn they cannot demand that their rights be supported and then turn around and not respect the rights of other's

They should, but I'm not forcing them. If they think gay people will be bad role models and the parents agree, then they have the right to decline access, like they would with paedophiles... Or not, if they're Catholics, in which case they're running the school...

Exactly how would his being gay affect his way of teaching music? Or ANY subject for that matter?

Why the hell would he even reveal that?

This is what pisses me off. If the school is private and they have their own beliefs why does the gay community want to force them to change just to accomodate them? It's like forcing a poor muslim to eat bacon, that's just mean.

If the man wants a job why can't he just go work a public school like every other normal person?

All I can think is 'Wow, he must be really powerful if all it takes for kids to become gay is for him to teach them music!' I wish I was that powerful.
"Look deep into my eyes...your favorite flavor is no longer chocolate...!"
"Billy, all you can think about is your homework...the thought of doing your homework makes you happy..."
"You there...you may think this note is the highest pitch you can go...but now you can sing with the frequency of light!"
"Stacy...the thought of summertime and vacations brings horror to your eyes...you do not want to have fun this summer...all you want to do is work, work, work!"
"Oh God, what a horrible morning! I know, I'll make time go backwards! And while I'm at it, I'll alter gravity and reincarnate the dinosaurs! Look at my superpowers!"
    Oh, I envy him!

They shouldn't have to. We don't have to hire non-native Americans here where I work. So why should the "HAVE" to hire a gay person at a christian school. I'm sure he can find better company anyway.

I have nothing at all against a gay teacher, I would fully support teachers of my children no matter who they are plowing when they get home, BUT, if you are openly gay, and apply at a CHRISTIAN school, knowing full well what religous people think of gay people, arent you pretty much just setting them up? Unless you live under a rock you know most religons are anti-gay. Kinda seems to me this was a set up from the begining. Someone looking for a law suit

It's not their right to deny someone anything, because they might happen to be or do something that you don't agree with.

The state certifies teachers credentials NOT A RELIGIOUS SCHOOL. To be certified the religious school MUST hire state certified teachers.

The school discriminated against him just as the Methodist church did in New Jersey when they failed to rent the hall and pavilion to a gay coupe for their marriage.

The religious school advertised for teachers, OPENLY SOLLICITED for state qualified individuals. They have no right to deny the man employment.

No they should not be forced to hire openly gay teachers, however, if they choose to they should be allowed to.

but that doesn't mean they will. They are private schools so I suppose they have the right to hire any one they want. Unfortunately too many still believe that people don't deserve equal rights.

Don't care what religion you are, not hiring someone because of sexuality is discrimination, plain and simple.

I think that a Christian school will have rules and regulations pertaining to the homosexual life style that might conflict their belief. So, I think that they are in their right to decline them employment. This is nothing new, most Christians do not believe in the unity of homosexuality based on the bible.

It's a private school and should have the right to hire who it wants to. Why would someone want to work were they are obviously not wanted? If it was a public school I would feel differently.

Yes, they should. But in the first place, why would a gay person ask for a job on a christian school?
I think we all know how christians react to homosexuality.

A person's private life, as long as it does not involve criminal activity, has no relevance to hiring decisions. If someone can be denied a job because of their sexual preference, what is to stop people being denied jobs because of their race, or their religion, or their political views, or their favorite baseball team (unless it's the Yankees, in which case - fire the bum!!)
