I absolutely love when people bitch about athletes by pointing to the top of the food chain and basically applying it to the rest of the group.

Phelps has money and makes money. Good for him. Most Olympic athletes don't earn a living based on handball or curling. A lot of them take time out from careers to do this and to represent the nation.

Heaven forbid anyone want to reward them for representing the US.

Taxing the medal? really?

That's been going on for years and we're only hearing about it now?

Tax the prize money - sure, it's income, but not the medal.
Then you might as well tax bowling trophies.
