For the last nine months, Sweden's official Twitter account (@Sweden) has been handed over to a new citizen each week as part of a social media experiment. But this week the experiment took a turn for the worse when 27-year-old Sonja Abrahamsson took the reigns and began tweeting about Jewish people, circumcision, nazis, and the holocaust. Yeah...

Abrahamsson wrote, "I just don't get why some people hates jews so much. Where I come from there is no jews. I guess its a religion. But why were the nazis talking about races? ... Once I asked a co-worker what a jew is. He was 'part jew,' whatever that means ... Whats the fuzz with jews. You can’t even see if a person is a jew, unless you see their penises, and even if you do, you can’t be sure!?" Needless to say, there was some outrage. But does this reflect poorly on Sweden's experiment, or does it still have value?

I think that it wasn't thought out well. But more than that, this girl is an adult my most standards and she isn't educated on the world, or on being PC. Is this standard for the region or just a dumb kid

It's a social experiment. Sometimes they're bad, sometimes they're good. It's interesting. This was a bad side, but I don't think it's a bad idea in general.

This one has the maturity of a 12 year old--Pre-screening might bring a better--or at least safer--outcome. It's difficult to believe this is a 27 year old woman putting this rambling example of poor education out into the Twitter universe for all to see, on the Swedish National Twitter account, no less...The Monarchy must be shaking their heads.

There will always be people that take advantage of the power, maybe have them fill out a questionaire and a contract before handing it over. I think its a really good way to learn about the kind of people from that particular part of the world and get a feel for different cultures.

that's the point of experiments. they could end up to be great and end up showing a lot of correlations and stuff, or they could fail or turn out horribly. only way to know is finish!
i think it'd be awesome if Canada (my country) did that

I think it's an interesting experiment, really. And, I don't think what this woman said is incredibly offensive. If anything, all this shows is that there are uninformed, culturally ignorant people in Sweden, too.

In a way, I think this is better - you can hear from real Swedes, and not just groomed PR bots. If Swedes have forgotten history, or believe in an alternate one - let's get it out in the open. I doubt her views would be that unusual for someone her age in that country.

It IS probably a recipe for disaster, but it's an interesting idea.

What Abramamsson said was pretty harmless, but I guess she should have known that you don't talk about the Jews. I mean, she wasn't insulting or attacking anyone, she wasn't even criticizing zionism or anything, and "there was some outrage". Ridiculous.

An interesting experiment, but then you get people like Madame White Power Nut Job here putting in their two cents worth and it all goes straight to hell. I'm sure that most Swedes do not care to be perceived as Nazis.

No, if you are going to let the people speak, let them speak. Good and bad, let them be seen as they are. We already have enough places online where through moderation the message sent is shaped to suit one agenda or another

ToS, in regards to content, are flawed. Offensiveness is a subjective thing, and its impossible for any moderation to set their own biases aside. They more often than not end up being used to censor ideas more than they are used to prevent abusiveness. I'm for letting people say what they wish, as long as they are willing to own what they say and deal with whatever repercussions stem from it.

Theres always going to be a few people that screw stuff up for everyone else...and while I think her quesions are valid, she should not have done these tweets when she was sponsoring her entire country. It makes their educational system look horrible, and I'm sure it isn't
