Sweden hasn't had a war in over 200 years. Are they doing something right?

I think the last one they fought was in the 1700s.

Check your facts, m8.. Sweden is currently fighting in Afghanistan as part of the Euro-Atlantic Partnership Council (EAPC) Nations in the International Security Assistance Force. They've been there 7 years. Currently there are 500 Swedish Troops on the ground.

They were also involved in the Libyan Civil War as well as the Congo Crisis of the 60's.

They are much better at minding their own business, a concept which is alien to places such as ( hmmm, let me think ) the USA.

Lovely, this is country that went through the entire second world war completely ignoring the fact that Nazi Germany was invading the continent and that millions of Jews, Gypsies, mentally handicapped people, gay people and political dissidents were being rounded up and killed. Not to mention the fact that they were actually trading weapons to this country which had stolen this money from the millions they slaughtered and of course refusing to give the money back after the war was won. What a swell policy to have. War always sucks. That doesn't mean some of them don't have to be fought.

Number one reason like the rest of scandinavia they keep to themselves most of the time except to work with friendly countrys and they never start anything if they dont have to and nobody is stupid enough to invade unless they outnumber them 50 to 1 and never since what the finns did to the russians in the winter war.

Pretty sure they meant the whole country what little they have been involved in were small additions to larger allied forces. Like you said they only have five hundred there and good chance most aren't combat troops the country as a main combatant hasnt been commited to a war in a very long time

You mean the six? They're Technically more likely to die at home and since all three mechanized companies are in the rear now and the only activity they're in is medavacs they're not really involved but whatever later troll.

It doesn't matter if it was six, or six thousand.

If they have military personnel on the ground in a war zone, and some of those personnel have been killed and wounded, then that means they are involved in a war.

Whether they"re "technically more likely to die at home" has nothing to do with anything being discussed here. Their military has suffered casualties while actively deployed in a war zone.

That means they're taking part in a war. Period.

You make a good point here. The UN have regularly used Swedish troops for peacekeeping missions, probably down to their perceived neutrality. This got me thinking back to 1983 when 264 US marines were killed in peacekeeping action in Lebanon. Many Americans don't equate this with those who died in a "proper" war. All I know is that I lost good buddies that day and I also feel that the US owes the Lebanon vets an apology.

They must be. Although I don't know how they can survive. The standard of living is very high. My guess is that they don't meddle as much into the affairs of other countries. They probably don't have the enemies the United States have. We're a super power, but because we've involved ourselves in too many conflicts, we didn't score any points with other nations. Maybe this nation can learn something from THEM.
