Surprise! Romney Visits Solyndra Plant

JT For Political Reform 2012/06/01 23:48:36

In a very savvy political move, Mitt Romney made a surprise campaign
stop at the bankrupt ($500 million at taxpayers expense) Solyndra plant
today. The stop was kept secret until Romney's arrival, but he gave
reporters a hint about the Solyndra appearance last night at a fundraiser.

At a fund-raiser in the San Francisco area Wednesday night, Mr. Romney
again talk about the solar panel company, portraying the president as a
failed venture capitalist who unsuccessfully tried to have government
pick winners and losers.

“Have you seen the Solyndra corporation headquarters? You probably
have,” Mr. Romney asked the crowd. “That’s what happens when government
puts in hundreds of millions of dollars into an enterprise. And by the
way, the president doesn’t understand when you invest like that in one
solar energy company, it makes it harder for solar technology generally
because the scores of other entrepreneurs in the solar field suddenly
lost their opportunity to get capital. Who wants to put money into a
solar company when the government puts half a billion into one of its
choice? So instead of encouraging solar energy, he discouraged it.”

And when they got there, he showed them the kind of amenities that you would expect in private homes, not offices. Reminds me of a chapter in Atlas Shrugged, about somebody who spent money on amenities and not making his business work.

I think he hit the nail on the head with his comments. And I would be surprised if he did not visit Solyndra. We've all heard so much about that place that it seems to me any candidate for president ought to go see it for themselves. And he did.

It was a pretty good move. That's a major flash point for America. Bain is one thing, but the outrage is fresh at Solyndra. I thought it was pretty smart.

I think Mitt makes a very good case right here about Solyndra: “That’s what happens when government
puts in hundreds of millions of dollars into an enterprise. And by the
way, the president doesn’t understand when you invest like that in one
solar energy company, it makes it harder for solar technology generally

solar company when the government puts half a billion into one of its
choice? So instead of encouraging solar energy, he discouraged it.”

Romney knows business one hell of a lot better than Obama because he gets it, you can't play favorites with the people's money and that's exactly what he did. He gambled away billions and who lost? The working people of Solyndra and the tax payers.
