Really, now you have to be of a certain ethnicity to be POTUS???? LMAO!!

Good point. Ethnicity should not matter to be POTUS. Citizenship and loyalty should. I think that Herman Cain would have been magnificent.

    Best to you MsTlynne.

His "birth details" were proven four years ago. His ethnicity is irrelevant.

To my knowledge he has claimed to be both African-American and Irish. If he can't decide to tell the truth about what his ethnic background is how can he be trusted with other issues?

He has relatives on his mother's side who originally came from Ireland. His father was African, and he is an American. Where has he not told the truth?

    Barack Obama's Irish Heritage
    By Nadra Kareem Nittle

Barack Obama may be known as the first black president of the United States, but what’s far less recognized is that he’s also said to be the 18th Irish-American president. Never was Obama’s mixed heritage more on display than during his May 2011 trip to Ireland. There, the half-white president met for the first time distant cousins in the village of Moneygall—home of his great-great-great grandfather. It was high time for Obama to showcase his Irish heritage according to biographer Stephen MacDonogh.

Sir I wish that I could agree on that. The only birth details I've seen were obvious forgeries. They were not even "good" forgeries but perfect examples of "what not to do in forging." Forty years ago when I was in Air Force Security Police, If a person had approached my post with documents having such alterations, I would have apprehended the person on the spot. Fast forward seven years, as a Security Supervisor about seven years later, I would have searched and handcuffed that person and taken them in for questioning. Somebody would have had to come in to positively identify him and take responsibility for him. He would not have simply been released to himself with such altered documents.

Thus, we have this bad situation between conservatives and progressives. I assure you that if I were satisfied with his documents I'd not be in this discussion but my conscience will not allow me to accept his alleged "documentation." If Mr. Romney's documents were as poorly done, I would WANT you to challenge them and I would be arguing on your behalf.

It really is nothing personal about you or Mr. obama. It is right and wrong and quite honestly I'd rather see both of us, highly educated and reasonably intelligent men working together to correct this matter. While I've disagreed with you on many matters I've always respected you.

    Best to you sir.

There is no legitimate evidence that questions the accuracy of the several birth certificates the President has produced. The "Experts" the birthers have come up with have no actual credibility and in the recent Georgia case they were thrown out of court.

And even without the birth certificates, you have two different Governors of Hawaii (one a republican) confirming that the President was born in Hawaii. You have contemporaneous newspaper accounts that confirm that the President was born in Hawaii. The State of Hawaii sent verification of the information to the State of Arizona confirming that the President was born in Hawaii. You have his own grandmother confirming that he was born in Hawaii. you have Indonesian school records confirming that he was born in Hawaii. You have an eyewitness who remembers being told by the delivering physician on the day the President was born that "Stanley [the President's mother's name] had a baby today".

And there also is absolutely no logic or sense behind the allegations. In order for the birthers to be correct that would mean that a pregnant woman in Hawaii decided to fly to Kenya in the late stages of her pregnancy, then as soon as she delivered fly back to Hawaii and lie to the Department of Health in order to get a birth certificate...

In order for the birthers to be correct that would mean that a pregnant woman in Hawaii decided to fly to Kenya in the late stages of her pregnancy, then as soon as she delivered fly back to Hawaii and lie to the Department of Health in order to get a birth certificate. There is also the fact that the ONLY possible reason why anyone would have lied about his birthplace was to make him eligible to be President of the United States. Even the most forward thinking liberal in 1961 would never have believed even the bare possibility that a mixed race child with a strange name and a father dark as night could ever run for President.

And finally, doesn't it strike you as a gaping hole in the theory that even given four years and unlimited resources (practically speaking) not ONE piece of actual evidence to demonstrate that he was born anywhere other than Honolulu has ever been discovered? Donald Trump has a lot of money, and he's is far from the only rich person who would like to see the President deposed. If in fact this conspiracy is as vast as the birthers believe it is, that means that the President has an amzing network of people and resources to eliminate every trace of evidence to contradict his story. And if he is talented enough to accomplish all that, then he surely would be able to hire a good forger.

In short, the birthers' theory has so many holes in it, so many logical contradictions, that it cannot be taken seriously by anyone. If they don't like the President, they can always vote for Mitt Romney. That's how the system works in this country.

You really don't help us with the name calling. While many of us wear "birthers" proudly, many of you progressives still slap us with it as an insult. While you might "accept" some "evidence", many of us, including myself who was trained to spot a forgery still do not accept what you may call as "legitimate evidence." My experience says "forgery" and just because you or some other person calls me a "birther" or calls a forgery "legitimate evidence" does not mean we are going to back down. Trust me Proud Progressive, a day will come when even you see that you have been mistaken and will be grateful that there were "birthers" around. I truly hope that you live to see it. Best to you in the meantime.

I hope you'll forgive me for taking the word of the Governor of Hawaii over you. No offense, of course, but since she saw the original document and you didn't, I'd have to defer to her.

And while you're busy avoiding reality, how do YOU explain why a pregnant woman would fly to Kenya to give birth then fly back a few days later all to make sure that 50 years later her son could run for President?
  • Centuri... ProudPr... 2012/06/14 11:43:02

Come on now, lets be a little more civil rather than insulting. You don't see me taking shots at your intelligence or integrity do you?

Of course I forgive you. Politicans will say anything when they are under pressure and we both know that we cannot trust them most of the time. I have serious doubts that any governor of Hawaii saw any original obama birth certificate. I honestly respect your right to believe it and am not trying to turn you to my side of the issue. I would hope that you would show mutual respect for my right to not believe the Hawaiian Governor.

As for the second paragraph, I see no explanation. I don't say that there was a conspiracy although a few years ago I did read of one by the Russians working with the American Communist Party but I never took it seriously. What we have, I consider to have been just the way things turned out, no 50 year conspiracy. On the other hand, IF, there were such a 50 year conspiracy, wouldn't that make an awesome book?

Have ye a good day. I worked a night shift and will probably be in the sack before you wire me back. Best to you.

Of course I know people of mixed herritage, myself included. Most English people are a mixture. But I for one do not claim to be different things depending on where I am as Obarmy seems to. Your herritage is also as mixed as mine if you are not a Native American.

When one is of mixed ancestry, of course they will always claim different parts of their heritage. Are you even remotely serious pursuing this line of debate?? If the guy is around white folks, according to your logic, he can't speak of the white part of his heritage? Get real and get out more often for crissakes!

I've watched interviews where he claimed to be African/American and Irish but not Scottish. I care nothing about the colour of a person's skin but I do care about if I can believe them or not. He seems to change his mind about his ethnic background depending on where he is. He should be proud of his herritage and not claim to be what he isn't as it makes him unbelievable.

He doesn't "change his mind" about his background. The statements "I have ancestors who came from Ireland" and "I have ancestors who came from Africa" are not mutually exclusive statements, and neither requires the qualification of the other.

[PS I believe Zuggi was claiming Scottish ancestry for himself, not the President.]

please show me where in the Constitution it states that one must be of a specific race in order to be president. I'd dearly love to see that.

oh, maybe you're talking about the 3/5 compromise? that was repealed just after that war you lost 140 years ago.

No, it is ridiculous. Hearing it only gives credence to their foolish claims. Obama qualified and went through all that when he originally went into politics. To even consider this is absurd and insulting to the American people AND the popular vote as well as the electoral college. These people need to get a life and just stop being babies and sore losers.

It would be a colossal waste of time. It doesn't matter what proof is shown to the birthers, they won't be satisfied until someone finds that Obama was born in Kenya. They asked for his birth certificate, he showed it to them, and they say it's fake. They've seen newspapers from Hawaii, with his birth announcement, but they say he went back in a time machine and submitted his birth announcement to the papers. The Supreme Court can not entertain asshats.
