Republicans want to cut foor aid for the poor, so that the military does not face budget cuts. Under the agreement that created the Budget Super Committee, across the board budget cuts were to be made if the committee could not reach agreement. The committee did not reach agreement, and now the Republicans are trying to go back on it and change the rules. They want the cuts to food programs to the poor to be increased, so the military will not face cuts. The US military accounts for half of all miilitary spending in the world. We will spend over $700 billion this year. The country with the second highest military spending is China, which will spend about $110 billion.

To keep the military fat, the citizens must go hungry
Can this really be America?

Nobody needs to go hungry, our troops eat MRE's.
If that's good enough for our troops to eat,it's good enough for anybody else...

Also it would cut down drastically on people, scamming the system.
Anybody that's hungry and would turn it down,is probably after more then being helped out for a while...

...No. Half of the world's military spending is ours alone. Do you seriously think any other country would attack us if we cut our military spending by 50%?

The poor can always join the military. That would be a cut in pay. If you drive by any military base, the housing always looks like slums. All surrounded by those "same day loans" places. They don't really live a life of luxury, unlike those on the dole.

    sponse:

Feeding America is annually providing food to 37 million Americans, including 14 million children. This is an increase of 46 percent over 2006, when we were feeding 25 million Americans, including 9 million children, each year.
That means one in eight Americans now rely on Feeding America for food and groceries.
Feeding America's nationwide network of food banks is feeding 1 million more Americans each week than we did in 2006.
Thirty-six percent of the households we serve have at least one person working.
More than one-third of client households report having to choose between food and other basic necessities, such as rent, utilities and medical care.
The number of children the Feeding America network serves has increased by 50 percent since 2006.

I have no problem whatsoever with keeping a large portion of our 'foreign aide' at home to help feed Americans, but feeding and supporting our military is paramount.

I certainly support the military, but I also believe there is a horrendous amount of waste that could be cut, or shifted to provide much better pay and benefits for those in uniform.

I also think that while the GOP is against increasing jobs w/ govt jobs, civil service jobs and infrastructure...... which employs so many Americans and could employ many more... I think that every single person who has served this country with honor, should be guaranteed a job, civil service or otherwise, when they are no longer in the service. Every single one. Not one single vet should be unemployed, and for any of them to be, should be a crime. If people can not provide the jobs, the Govt should, period.

Watch the GOP argue that one.

Didn't we just know that the GOP would try this. They started talking about it as soon as the budget super committee failed because they would hear of no tax increase. I hope the president calls their bluff along with the Senate and makes them accept their failure.

If Obama and the Democrats would stop screwing up the economy, like they have for at least the past 3 years, there would be more than enough to meet basic needs AND have a first-class military.

Yeah, sure ... the Republicans want to "starve" people. They want to see old people and babies starving in the streets. They want to take away black people's right to vote. They want make women live in Taliban-like conditions. They actually WANT all those things to happen.

And if you believe any of that crap, then you're nothing but an intolerant hater. It's one thing to disagree with Republicans and conservatism, but quite another to paint them as heartless monsters.

But I guess when we have a liberal president with no record to run on, this sort of intolerance and hate is what liberals will push. Pretty pathetic.

They want to outspend our nearest competitor in military expenditures by a six to one margin. They want to pay for this by cutting programs that assist the people they are claiming to protect by spending all of this money. They want to legislate the tenets of their faith which I, and many other Americans, want no part of. They want to restructure Medicaid and Medicare not to benefit their constituents by providing higher quality, more effective care, but to fill the coffers of their handlers and line their pockets.

The current Republican party is a disgrace. A wretched bunch of greedy, whiny, elitist, prick obstructionists. The problem is not the Obama administration. It's the desire of these fat bastards to steal taxpayer money and dupe fools into thinking it's for their own protection. That's what is pathetic.

A retired military officer has claimed that the military budget can be cut 40% and that his plan would not only reduce its costs but make it far more efficient. I find it amazing that phony conservatives who say on the one hand government can do no wrong, then turn around and support the largest socialistic organization within America. Just a bit ironic.

The ReTHUGnicans on Capitol Hill could care less about hurting Americans. They probably consider Ike a heretic for his stance against the military industrial complex. He was a man of war & knew what he was talking about. Unfortunately, his party decided to worship at the altar of the almighty dollar & learned that war was profitable for them. They've become a bunch of greedy, heartless warmongers.

Everything in civilization is predicated on a foundation of basic physical security as provided by the military. With billions in foreign humanitarian aid going to hostile nations, there is absolutely no excuse for a single American to miss a meal, or a dime to be cut from defense spending. Cut some fat from any of the various bloated civilian govt agencies. GSA comes to mind.

Absolutely..........here's a thought........how about taking some of those 20 - 25 year old "POOR" that are perfectly healthy and living off the government and having them join the military? Then they would have food, clothes, a roof over their head, and a job....basically a reason to exist other than to be a burden to society.

You must have been born yesterday. It is the Republicans, with their repeal of regulations that prevented a repeat of the great depression, who are responsible for the near depression we have recently experienced. And what do they want now, for all but the military and millionaires? Austerity, which is what has pushed much of Europe back into recession.
