Southwest Calls Woman Out for Cleavage: Was the Airline Justified?

Airlines have a way of creeping into the news any time a passenger plays too much "Words With Friends" or allows his pants to sag a little too much. This week is no different. According to Jezebel, a woman was hassled on a 6 a.m. Southwest flight from Las Vegas to New York a few weeks ago because she was boasting too much boobage. You know... cleavage, baggage, breastage... She was showing too much of her twins. At least, that's what the airline said.

A woman going by the name Avital told Jezebel that she was told her outfit was "inappropriate" because it showed too much of her chest, but she didn't let that deter her. She boarded the plane anyway and, in her own words, "Lo and behold, the plane didn't fall out of the sky... My cleavage did not interfere with the plane's ability to function properly." Do you think Avital deserved to be called out by Southwest Airlines for having too much cleavage, or is her outfit perfectly acceptable?

Then again Southwest is based in Dallas,TX .The "Bible belt". A passenger on the flight with her probably complained about her appearance as not being "family friendly". Six Flags in Arlington, TX will bar anyone entry if their appearance(i.e. "questionable tattos", dressing "too sexy".) is not "family friendly". The city of Arlington denied Hooter's a beer license back in 2003 or 2004 because of the Hooter girls attire. http://www.heraldtribune.com/...

It's funny, because you mentioned Six Flags. Go in there and it is one big gang member convention. I have always chuckled thinking of their rules regarding 'family friendly'

First of all, its not that bad as far as cleavage goes.

Second, the TSA takes nude photos of everyone while exposing them to harmful radiation not to mention that little violation of the 4th Amendment thing. Then they want to grope and molest children, babies, the sick and elderly.

So, after all that some flight attendent wants to make a fuss about a little cleavage?

Really, why anyone flies who doesn't ABSOLUTELY have to is beyond me. Protest the airlines and TSA and DO NOT FLY.

I'm with you...I email TSA regularly and DO NOT FLY. Too bad we cannot get more people to boycott flying...maybe just for a week. Or, keep petitioning and complaining about the TSA, somebody, somewhere in power has to pay attention.

Sen. Rand Paul has a bill out there that guts the TSA.
I don't fly, either. It would sicken me to subject myself to these dehumanizing, illegal searches, and to support airlines that care so little for their passengers' human rights. they can all go bankrupt.

I have stopped flying myself. Last trip anywhere I just rented a car and drove. Takes a bit longer but not really when you consider all the time wasted on this SS Security Check. Plus it is so much more pleasant, you can smoke, stop and stretch legs when you wish, plus stop and see the sights that may present themselves.

BOYCOTT Flying and the TSA will disappear.

Good for you Deborah! Also, good for the rest of you for not giving in to this farce. There are groups and resources out there like wewontfly.com

Also, know that the TSA has plans to be even more invasive soon, read this:

in think it's discrimination, a jealous stewardess was having a bad day, boobs are in fact access fat they were not being disclosed of course it is not illegal for a woman to expose their chest entirely it is not a sexual organ you can double check it but totally legal, of course there are other laws to take in affect and that might be disorderly conduct which is also a farce because it is depending upon opinions of what is orderly and what is disorderly.

Being a former Flight attendant I am shocked how the people today will board a plane. They all seem to look like bums, street walkers etc. At one time we all had to wear heals,
great uniform and had to have a good personality. No longer do they look good nor are they that pleasant. They have lowered their standards to match the nasty customer's that fly every day. I have flown all over the world but I will NOT fly again for any reason while they allow nasty, lazy people fly. I would rather fly with a plane of swine than what fly's today. I just don't know why ppl have to be so nasty. No excuses please, you know who you are. Dress up when you fly and leave the darn ugly sneakers in your suitcase !

of course this is a judgemental statement criticizing people on what they where which ultimately is none of your business, you have basically proven that an opinion and judgemental tactics come into play, GOD IS THE ONE AND ONLY JUDGE SO CHILL AND LET MY FATHER DO HIS JOB.

I have a question, when you voice your opinion about something that is actually affecting someone or something else, is it judging? For ex. I told someone that it kills me to know that someone close to me keeps their dog on a zip line behind their garage 24/7 and even though they go on vacations they can't even afford to spend $20 for 6 months of flea/tick treatment.... is that judging? Or if it bothers you when you see a parent screaming in their childs face threatening to beat the fn living sh*t out of them and it bothers you... whether you say something or not... is that judging? I agree that you shouldn't judge, I feel you can have an opinion whether it's write or wrong but you shouldn't treat someone differently because they may look slutty or they're a bum on the street or they have 8 kids on welfare etc etc. But if you see something like abuse &/or neglect I think turning a blind eye is just as bad if not worse than the person you feel is doing wrong. And it's one thing to say wow that girl needs to shape up/I fear she's gonna get herself killed because you know it's a downward spiral waiting to happen then just being mean spirited and calling her names.

What really gets me is what I see people wear in court! I think the long hair kept in a ponytail is stupid and you shouldn't have to cover tattoos but you shouldn't wear street walker outfits, ripped jeans and flip flops or 4+ inch heels. I also notice it when I go out to eat at a nice restaurant and same goes for things like the opera and ballet. People used to dress up and it really does change the mood. I understand that not everyone can afford nice things but I bet they had something that would have looked better than what they chose to wear... like you said many are just lazy and don't care. I don't see anything wrong with wearing a nice pair of boot cut leggings and sneakers and t-shirt when flying either as long as they're not all ripped up and stained. I want to be comfortable and driving in a car, then sitting in an airport for an hour or more and then having to be on a stuffy cramped plane for hours etc etc I should be able to be comfortable and wearing a skirt with heels and all that crap is NOT comfortable. I don't wanna see ass cracks either but I see it at the animal shelter I work at, at my office, at the stores etc etc I just try to avoid looking back until they've stood up lol. What really surprises me is that they don't know when it's showing! That's...

For me I don't like to see a lot of boobage but maybe that's because I don't wear low cut tops because I don't have any. ;) lol

Is that really the outfit she wore? If so I think the outfit choice it self is worse than showing the boobs. She's wearing a low cut dress with a plaid shirt with a necklace and belt that don't match and they notice the cleavage? Yeah it's a little low but omg what people *itch about is crazy. lol

I find it amusing that some actually answered 'yes'. Sorry, but cleavage is not akin to nakedness. No laws are broken. Kudos to the Jezebel for not giving and boarding anyway. The airline is lucky they don't get sued for sexual harrassment.

agreed. it just shows ones opinion of another, another form of judgement in which God is the only true judge. one lady stated she was an ex stewardess and she voted yes then went on to critisise people for ugly sneakers this is a true form of critisism of one's personal belief
