Southwest Calls Woman Out for Cleavage: Was the Airline Justified?

Airlines have a way of creeping into the news any time a passenger plays too much "Words With Friends" or allows his pants to sag a little too much. This week is no different. According to Jezebel, a woman was hassled on a 6 a.m. Southwest flight from Las Vegas to New York a few weeks ago because she was boasting too much boobage. You know... cleavage, baggage, breastage... She was showing too much of her twins. At least, that's what the airline said.

A woman going by the name Avital told Jezebel that she was told her outfit was "inappropriate" because it showed too much of her chest, but she didn't let that deter her. She boarded the plane anyway and, in her own words, "Lo and behold, the plane didn't fall out of the sky... My cleavage did not interfere with the plane's ability to function properly." Do you think Avital deserved to be called out by Southwest Airlines for having too much cleavage, or is her outfit perfectly acceptable?

The airline should be able to do something about a woman who is making other people uncomfortable. They don't show Rated R movies on airlines, so why should they allow people to dress R rated?

The image there of the woman is definitely not "R" rated, so that argument is off the table.

SHE WAS NOT DRESSED R RATED!!! THE SO CALLED OTHER OFFENDED PASSENGERS NEED TO GET OFF THEIR HIGH HORSES. THEIR STUFF STINKS TOO, THEY ARE NOT PERFECT, AND THEY NEED TO GET OVER THEMSELVES. IT WAS AN AIRPLANE, NOT A CHURCH!!!

It's ridiculous, but it's a private airline. They can refuse to provide her service if they want and if you don't like them having a dress code, you can fly with another airline, take the train or drive.

Not acceptable. This borders on (IS) a form of sexual harassment of men. I am fed up with seeing so much of women who would scream harassment if a man commented on her exposure, but it is fine to intentionally attempt to stimulate men by what they wear. There is clearly a double standard here. A woman truly is much more interesting if she gives only a "hint" of what MAY be there, leaving the mystique of the covered to provoke interest. Showing to much desensitizes men, to where a pill company now is making a fortune on the fact that they have seen to much, for too long. Oh, and yes I am a man, and yes I enjoy knowing women for their intellect, and outside of my wife, I am NOT interested in having a woman dressing so as to short circuit my ability to enjoy learning what she knows, (not just that she is attempting to show herself as a whore, which indeed she may NOT be.)

And yet bikinis will show WAY more. Cleavage shouldn't be an issue for you if you take a loooooong look at history where corsetry would show a LOT more cleavage than this woman and yet that was considered ok. My fiance doesn't short circuit when he sees other women practically naked...I don't ban him from looking, but he doesn't tell them how to do things. It's none of his business.

Umm have you ever thought maybe a woman dresses that way not because she wants to "stimulate a man" which is ridiculous and yes of course they don't want men to come on to them. Not every woman is a prostitue. That's s just sexist. Maybe they dress that way because they are insecure and they want to feel pretty.

idiot dress ((outfits) are designed for men to look and stimulate interested, other why A woman should were a sack. And woman like to look what they feel, from good to great, lazy, etc.
I like woman to look nice, sluttly no have pride in yourself not preverted., For her to build up her self-esteem. I look for the real lady not the made up fronts that are used.

There is too much "justification" going on to do something to a person. Justification is when people don't mind their own business. If this is the standard; then Wal-mart should shut down; have you looked at what people dress like going to Wal-mart?

This ariline has lost it's mind. Not that I would want my wife or daughters to dress in such a manner in public, but with today's lack of standards or common sense, why pick on her. What next your pants are too tight, your tie is in a Winsor.....

Who wants to bet if the women was a toothpick it wouldn't have been an issue? While I wouldn't flash the much cleavage in public I have seen girls wear a lot less in public with much more hanging out.

It might not look great, but not everybody is shaped like a model, and calling out a passenger for clothing and looks from a plane is totally inadequate. I do understand the exacting security measures regarding arms, dangerous matters, etc., but in this case it is pathetic.

Already answered this in the original post. There is no reason to call her out because of that outfit.

"It is just cleavage...and She was wearing a fraking flannel shirt. I have flown southwestern and seen women in outfits that bordered on hooker uniforms and they got on the plane without indecent. I'm thinking that employee was just a douche."
