"Ask Romney if he thinks George W Bush was a successful President. If he says yes - bad answer, no one, not even Republicans, wants to repeat the eight years with Junior. If he says no - how will his policies differ from Bush's? Difficult answer - and risks fight with members of Bush administration (who are also likely picks for a Romney administration)."

What about Medicare? According to his spokesman, " Mitt Romney has a comprehensive plan to preserve Medicare for today’s seniors while ensuring that it remains strong for future generations.” ( no details yet)
GWB did have a successful Presidency, especially considering what went on during those 8 years that were completely beyond his control.
Had Clinton taken any one of the numerous opportunities for OBL's head on a platter.... 9/11 would have never occurred.
Had the Mayor and Governor of New Orleans, Louisiana taken GWB's National address seriously, their city/state and residents would have been prepared for Katrina before it reached shore and especially afterward.
All in all, America was doing quite well until the orchestrated collapse of the housing market hit and money tightened down all over. Bush, Greenspan & McCain, all voiced concerns but all attempts to rectify the situation were shot down by Congress. Frank - Dodd - Schumer & others, insisted that the GSE's were "financially sound".
The Dow Jones had hit an all time high - over 14,000 but things took a turn for the worse in 2007 after the Pelosi - Reid "drain the swamp - most transparent Congress in history", began their assault.
FYI - They all lie.
