Solitary Confinement: Is It Wrong?

The man raped my little girl then killed her - but you think putting him into isolation for a week is INJUSTICE??????????????? What is the matter with you?

It is injustice they should have put a bullet in him.

tell the guard who gets stabbed or beaten by a psyco, or a kid who gets raped cause he isnt in solitary that it is wrong. anyone who thinks its wrong should house these violent inmates.

try every day occurance. worked as corrections in new york state. if most people were locked up with these animals they would want solitary. prevents stabbings, robbery, forced to turn tricks if you are weak, face slashings...need i go on ?

You'll never get through to him - he is a prog and progs never ever under any circumstances look at the real victims. Makes me think every one of them knows he is a potential prisoner.

the problem with society today is we fuss too much over the human rights. The thing is some people aren't worthy of them, on account of they are fllthy scum. And such people can generally be found in prisons

The prisoners know if they are unrulie they will be sent to the hole so if they get solitary they asked for it.

Really don't give a crap about prisoners social interaction. You do the crime you do the time and if you want to act like an animal then you can be treated like one.

You relinquish your rights when you break the law. At least we don't chop off body parts like some other countries do.

Sometimes it may be necessary. If you are a danger to others, or in danger of being harmed by others. More importantly... If you don't want to run the risk, then don't go to jail.

If you choose to do the crime then you have to do the time. That's what they get for being a embrassment to the world and their parents. Maybe if they show them real life in prison, they will not want to go back when they finally get out.

Some do deserve it so the other prisoners are being protected besides prison is not supposed to be a picnic

If you cant have respect for and take away other peoples human rights why do u deserve any yourself? there are prisoners in the UK that should be shot who live in cells that cost the public millions and millions to maintain. put them in a concrete box with a bed feed them give the fux books.

Honestly, depends on how long they have to stay in for and the type of crime they committed. If they are a known violent criminal then yes a couple of weeks, but not for minor crimes like stealing food from the mess hall.

If they can't learn out to get along outside of the prison which is the reason they are in there in the first place, then solitary confinement is a good way for them to think about why their actions outside the prison put them in prison. If they can't or won't conform to where they are and what actions are required from them in order to get along with their fellow prisoners, then let them spend time in solitary confinement in order for them to think about just what they did that got them in solitary in the first place.

This is a silly question with no context. If it is without context, then how can I know that it isn't being abused? Death penalty is allowed here, but you can't execute a person for fraud. So no, it is not appropriate without context.

However, if a prisoner requests it they should be allowed to have it.

Ridiculous, right?? They're in jail for a reason, there's no need to make their stay there an enjoyable experience.

Especially if the inmate occupying it has a severely violent background. Or if an inmate needs protection from other inmates.

Well I guess a majority of you know the psychology behind solitary confinement. Sometimes it is used to protect the prisoner from the other inmates. Prison is not a vacation if you are there you have no rights ... watch out for Bubba and do not drop the soap.

It is the only option when an inmate either needs protection from other inmates, or the inmate is too violent to be housed with another inmate. Perhaps the dynamics of solitary confinement can be molded to allow some indirect interaction with safety as the primary concern.
