If they're in there for too long, its possible they'll literally lose their minds. There's documented cases of that very thing.

We need to go back to Byzantine times where criminals actually got what they deserve. Blindings, mutiliations, noses and ears cut off, drawn and quartered, etc.

When someone is so bad other prisoners don't want him/her, then they ARE BAD. Being alone is like a grown up time out. Either they learn to be social with other prisoners or they can be alone. Even prisoners do not deserve to be with someone so anti-social they are in danger of physical harm or abuse.

prisoners have to many rights and free benefits, even more than we do. Since I am paying for them to be there, i said take away all benefits and keep them in cells by themselves, no time out of room.

When a person takes another persons life (unless self defense or accidental) or rapes children and women, I believe they should be executed. I consider solitary confinement to be kind treatment for hardcore criminals.

It's called prison for a reason. They aren't in there on a holiday. Why should they live any better than even the ppl on our streets. Let's see, they didn't do anything and a lot of them have a cardboard box for a home and they don't get food catered to them.

That's what happens when you're a problem. If you committed a crime and sentenced to prison, that's what happens. Solitary is for the prison population usually committing crimes on the inside. No sympathy here. There are too many bad seeds and when you break the law there has to be consequences. That's part of the problem with todays world. There is far too little accountability and sense of responsibility for one's own actions.

I personally think that they can and will suffer from mental depression or just attempt suicide in the cell, and probably wouldn't be found out because they are in solitary confinement. But this may also be because I have a biased opinion, due to the fact that I am claustrophobic I think it is wrong for anyone *but maybe not murderers or any other major crime committers* to endure not a big enough breathing space, let alone living space.

Remember that "Prison" is not Jail. Prison is for Murderers, Rapists and Child Molesters. I would agree with you if we were talking Jail but we're not.

Well if someone commits a crime in prison as is sent to solitary and they decide to take there own life, well that's on them I am and always have been a firm believer that if you do the crime don't start crying when it's to the time! Most criminals are in prison because they commit a crime and if solitary is where they end up from lack of thinking, hell who's fault is that? THEIRS, that who.

And if they are unfit to mingle with the rest of the prison society, does anyone believe they will ever be fit to mingle with the rest of society? So why are we spending more to house ONE prisoner than many of our families have to live on, even with both parents working at paying jobs?

I know, that's a very good question. That type of person were talking about probably never will change unless the lobotomy makes a comeback. It's too bad we can't put them on an island and let them all live there we each other. There really isn't a practical answer, at least not in my head.

There is an old saying....Don't do the crime unless you can do the time.

Responsibility is becoming more and more a thing of the past, as our society deteriorates right in front of us.

But the stupidity of the massive people, supporting the media bla-bla-bla and the hatred in the racist congress do not pay attention to that.
(Although anyone can go to jail for a non-violent misdemeanor !)
