SOLAR ENERGY COMPANY FILES FOR BANKRUPTCY

BlueMax372 2011/08/16 18:00:40
BOSTON -- A solar energy company that received millions of dollars in grants and incentives from Massachusetts before closing one of its facilities in the state has voluntarily filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy relief.

Marlborough-based Evergreen Solar announced Monday that as part of its reorganization it would reduce its U.S. and European workforce by about 65 people and suspend operations at its Midland, MI, facility.

State officials say Evergreen Solar has been awarded more than $20 million in grants and $11 million in tax and lease incentives since 2008.

It is so odd that most of the companies that Obama bailed out in 2009 are all filing for Chapter 11.
Many leaving the tax payer to eat what they cannot repay...
General Motors...we have to eat $30 plus Billon dollars.
Chrysler...we have to eat what $9 Billion dollars
AIG with the "contractual agreement" We have to eat $130 Billion
Now this company Evergreen Solar over $31 million dollars.

Please tell me this is right.

Obama cons the American people into raising the DEBT CEILING and very conviently more people start filing for CHAPTER 11 BANKRUPTCY.

Than to make matters worst Obama has to be SO DAMNED GENEROUS with our money by paying $2.4 MILLION for two SPECIAL BUSES MADE IN CANADA. One for him and the other for the Secret Service SO HE CAN START CAMPAIGNING...or what ever he plans to do with it...I am sure that American Coach is going to prosper with the use of that $2.4 million and that Canadian company will wither away and go out of business.

Oh, well just another reason for my sister who is a Canadian subject can rub in my nose the stupidity of the United States.

In extended interviews with Company officials, they offered statements reflecting that China has cut the price of their solar technology so deep that it is impossible to compete with them. It's time we hold China accountable, they play with their currency, and exports to create an economic win for them, while other countries struggle.

Wind Energy is so overpriced who can afford it. Nobody. Once looked into a system for our house, "wind energy", used, it was going to be $27,000.00. Can't see where that would be efficient. The guy swore by it. And we were tempted. But, then I asked my husband, if it is so great, why is he wanting to sell it? We decided to forget it. Glad we did.

Well folks, can we agree to keep our hands and tax dollars off business and let them sink or swim on their own merits ? Would that save a lot of money and ass pain or what ?

That is exactly the way the free enterprise system and JOB CREATION works best. Hands off and stability for the business owners.

I wish there was a Constitutional amendment saying government cannot create any law that favors one business over another.

    What would that do ?
    NO subsidies.
    NO special interest tax breaks.
NO political power to favor your campaign donors with special legislation.
NO huge tax code --- it would zap the 77,000 pages down to less than 1,000

Yes, and THIS particular company did not make it but that does not mean that the industry is not worth investing in.
  • Ramon HowardF... 2011/08/22 04:32:09

Maybe...but if the industry was self sustaining, or even close to it, then the company wouldn't need a lot of money to keep going.

it is not yet because it is in its infancy, that`s why it needs government support but it should not be all direct government help, tax policy would also be desirable, like R & D tax credits.

I can agree with that. We should look for alternatives for oil and coal but we should not pour millions of dollars down the drain, without oversight, with little hope for success.

That is correct, whenever there`s money involved you have to have accountability. Having said that, keep in mind that with any nascent industry or commercial activity, there`s going to be risk. I recently read a book about the history of the oil business and initially, there were millions of dollars sunk into oil exploration without any guarantee of success and even though most of it was private money, the risk was there, regardless of where the money came from.

Wrong. Green energy has a great future. Just because one company failed does not mean the idea is not worth pursuing. Let me make two points: one, there`s more than one form of green energy and not any single one will work anywhere. Did you know that Iceland gets most of it`s energy form Geothermal plants? Two, more R & D is needed on all of them.

We're not Iceland. They have active volcanoes and a small country while our volcanoes are sparse and spread over the Western side of the US. I say get energy in whatever form is best, Gas, Coal, Oil, Nuclear, Hydro-Electric, Solar, etc. It's just my opinion that nation-wide conversion to Renewable Energies isn't the best option right now.

Seattle's 'green jobs' program a bust
    By VANESSA HO, SEATTLEPI.COM STAFF

Last year, Seattle Mayor Mike McGinn announced the city had won a coveted $20 million federal grant to invest in weatherization. The unglamorous work of insulating crawl spaces and attics had emerged as a silver bullet in a bleak economy – able to create jobs and shrink carbon footprint – and the announcement came with great fanfare.

Its not surprising that another Company has filed for charter 11, Obama was handing out stimulus money like it was water, 99.9 percent of this money was a complete waste and has put America so deep in debt that we can never recover. Obama never had any idea of our recession his only concern was for Wall Street and the rich and nothing more! And as this recession continues and unemployment still in a miserable state with nothing in site to give the working people hope. Very easily Obama and Congress can put people back to work and this can improve our economy without adding to our deficit.
