Ever since celebrity activists John Lennon and Yoko Ono slid under the sheets and called the press for the Bed in for Peace, celebrities have been using the glare of the spotlight to illuminate a cause. After all, who else but the rich and famous can better spread the word to their adoring fans about their latest altruistic agenda?

Some seem to come from a pure place in leading the charge. Michael J. Fox, who himself has been diagnosed with Parkinson's, is the champion for advancements in stem cell research on Capitol Hill. While political activists like Jane Fonda have been vilified for maybe not conveying their celebrity activist message in the best way possible.

Enter Wyclef Jean. The Haitian born hip-hop star and producer has been working on behalf of the Haitian people for a long time. After Hurricane Jeanne hit the country in 2004 he established the often-controversial Yele Haiti Scholarship. But when a devastating earthquake ravaged his homeland earlier this year, he really kicked it into high gear for Haiti. Now comes word that Jean might even make a run for President of the country and rule the nation for five years.

Would this officially make him the biggest celebrity activist of all time?

possibly up there but there are many unsung heroes in this world of ours many working steadily, quietly and dedicating every waking hour to make life better for someone somewhere unselfish they promote change without always getting the recognition they deserve

Just what the world needs,,,an entertainer who wants to become President of a country. It makes me think of those pictures of Bill clinton playing (?) a saxophone when he was president of the USA. Ridiculous on many, many levels. As Clint Eastwood put it in one of his Dirty Harry films-"A man has to know his limitations." Ronald Reagan was the exception to the entertainer as politician conumdrum simply because he worked hard at developing his "political skills" even before his becoming the head of the actors guild and then as governor of the state of California. What does the Haitian guitarist have in his background that qualifies him for political office on any level?

Al Gore..really do we think he is that great. On the DVD that was made starring him on global warming he was staring out the window of his limo with his lap top open. He made his speeches on a electric platform just to point to increases and how many rooms does his home have? I'd agree hypocrite 101; it baffles me there aren't thousands of spoofs on that guy or a silly Broadway.

What about Hayden Panettiere? She is involved in multiple Save the Whales projects, actively involved in Ronald McDonald's House charities, is a teen ambassador of the Candie's Foundation (which is to prevent teen pregnancy), and has made several political videos, also urging young people to vote. And she is only 20.

The question is "Who is the biggest celebrity Activist?" So that narrows the field greatly. For its asking for the "biggest celebrity"...which sort of rules out any who are celebrated because they are activist...as well as those who arent celebrated at all and yet are activist. Hello! So....who is one of the most celebrated of our time...who has also been a very involved activist since even before they were quite the celebrity of todays magnitude by far? Who has challenged us to think their entire public life? Who has put tons of their own money as well as served as a spokesperson for many who had no real voice...Who has built ther entire hugely successful stardom while also championing the rights and awareness of the needs of others.....Well...MADONNA! The nearest next one in line is way far behind. She is passionate and has always cared...and she deserves her stardom and wealth...for she is bboth a hard working super talent....but also a tireless voice for those in need. *MADONNA*
