I remember my oldest brother who passed away just before last Thanksgiving Day
at the age of 86. He went into the U.S.Navy in 1943, trained as a carrier pilot flying
SBD's, TBM's and later F4-U's, but never got into combat because he was kept back as
an instructor pilot. He always regretted that even though he had no say in the matter.
He later served in the Korean War as a carrier pilot and flew 93 missions over North Korea in
A-1 Skyraiders. He made over 300 carrier landings in his carrier and hit the nets twice. Once, he crash landed his airplane on a small island off the coast of North Korea after being hit by AAA and was picked up by a helicopter. He earned two Purple Hearts, the Distinguished Flying Cross and several Air Medal plus citations from the government of South Korea for his service in defending their nation. He later transitioned into multi-engine aircraft and flew C-130's
in and out of Vietnam braving a lot of enemy fire. He finished his fine carrier flying Navy and civilian VIP's all around the world.

He was a great man and I always had great admiration for him, for his service to his country and for the really wonderful life he lived.

I just thought about D-Day, where Americans charged through a hail of gunfire to help us enjoy the liberty we now sometimes take for granted. Unfortunately, Al-Bummah's CONSPICUOUS ABSENCE at Arlington sends a message -- a message consistent with his "raise the white flag" stance re Islamofascist terror. God help us all, pass the ammo and stay strong!

A lot of Arlington here. That means that Arlington is the best. BTW, i noticed how the Iwo Jima memorial cuts out the dead bodies they were standing on as they planted the flag. Did you know that they actually posed for that picture after planting the flag normally? Look closely, you can see a hat of one of the soldiers in this pic. planted flag posed picture planting flag closely hat soldiers pic

I tell my students about many heroes in our US History Classes.
Some were MOH recipients, others recieved other medals, but especially in the last 100 years. I tell them the medals they were awarded and tell tales of their heroism but remind them that for every one of those medal recipients, there were many more who deserved it but no one was around to witness their deeds. To all those families out there who have someone serving, had served and returned or have lost them to war, I ask that God bless everyone of you in your time of rememberance. Thank you from one grateful American.

Memorial Day is certainly a day originated for remembering our military heroes, but it is also a day when many Americans visit the grave site of their deceased loved ones.

On this Memorial Day, 2010, I remember and honor Lt Col John Stein and his brave crew members that lost their lives during the fatal flight supporting Operation Enduring Freedom.

I write to the family to let them know that their husband and dad is not forgotten and that he remains in my mind continually. He was a thoughtful person who out-performed his fellow servicemen and women in knowledge and charity.

John still flies today in ways we can only imagine as he had/has a personal relationship with Jesus Christ.

God bless you John for your dedication to country, family and fellow service members.

Your monuments still remain in the hearts and minds of those who are left behind."
