SodaHead Brief: Is Obama Turning Into Carter?

Chris Matthews appears to be over his "thrill going up my leg" affection for Obama, comparing the current president with one-term Jimmy Carter. On "The Chris Matthews Show" Sunday, the host said:

"The word these days is optics, visuals, signals. In the Carter presidency, the optics were not exactly robust, and Ronald Reagan rode that to a big victory in 1980. Is the Obama White House sending some Carteresque signals these days?"

Obama is not turning into Carter. Carter was incompetent, but didn't hate America. Obama is also incompetent but hates America to boot.

    It looks that way....

We should expect soaring energy costs (because Obama high energy prices because of "Global Warming").

We should expect a fleecing of our military, because Obama will have to cut costs to pay for his giant social spending programs.

Obama's "let's play nicely together" (i.e. bowing to foreign leaders, sitting to talk with them unconditionally, rapping with Chavez, etc...) policy will lower the perceived strength of America, just like the Soviets and Iranians mocked us during Carter.

Absolutely, it took a Reagan to rebuild and strengthen our image around the globe after Carter. How long until somebody pulls a Iranian hostage deal on us again? How long will Obama try to talk to them after it happens. They didn't pull that crap with Reagan because he'd bomb that crap outta yur ass if you tried. Iranian hostages were held for 444 days until Reagan worked his behind the scenes deal to get them out on inaugeration day. The Iranians knew better than to hold them any longer. Who will be the next Reagan in 2012 to dig us outta this mess? scenes deal inaugeration iranians hold reagan 2012 dig outta mess

Matthews also admits he is a fan of Sarah Palin, so he can be hard to figure at times. When he compares someone with Jimmy Carter, it is not necessarily a slam. Matthews worked in the Carter administration, and continues to hold an affection for the man, as evidenced whenever Carter is a guest on his show.

Given his choice last year, Matthews probably would have preferred Hillary for president, so he was never starry-eyed over Obama. As for the "thrill-up-the-leg" remark, Matthews sometimes talks faster than he thinks, and he often comes up with gems like that.

Anyone who thinks Obama, or anyone else running for president, actually hates this country simply has not been paying attention. These days if you disagree with a politician it is fashionable to somehow surmise that the pol "hates" the country. If that were so, running for president would be a strange way to show it.

Did Carter knowingly place communists, eugenicists, nazi enviornmentalists, and supporters of homosexual pedophilia among his circle of advisors and policy makers?
Maybe; but I don't seem to remember that .

I agree with dublin9. Carter was inept, but loved and still loves the country, albeit from his far left stance.

Obama is academically smart, a good orator, but not wise, honest and has his own agenda, not what is best for the country.

If the economy is the nations driver, why are we wasting time on health care which will further impact us for generations negatively. Easy solution, tort reform, get rid of illegals and only work on economic issues, not wasting money on stimulus graft funds that have done nothing.

Encourage manufacturing, train people, institute workfare (not free rides, you have to give to get) and downsize the government, including the house and senate. In my life, I had to cut costs, look at where the money went and not do things that would impact my families future negatively.

Doesn't seem too difficult does it!

Obama is way more dangerous to America than Carter ever was. At least Carter didn't hate America I don't think. He just made some strange choices, not unAmerican that I can remember. I think he is as confused now as he was when he was Pres.

I think Chris Matthews is a little slow, he has been compared to Carter alot lately. The worst president in my living history. Obama will take that title from Carter. The most Un-American President.

It's certainly an interesting parallel, isn't it? Even Democrats are questioning if President Obama's actions are wise.
